According to Mark Berman the Houston Texans have agreed to terms with quarterback John Beck to come in and compete for a spot on the roster. Head Coach Gary Kubiak has been hinting that he was interested in bringing in a veteran to camp to compete with rookie Case Keenum and for another arm during this time.

Beck has been in a similar system with the Washington Redskins, so him coming to Houston should be pretty easy transition in terminology and scheme. The former BYU Cougar quarterback has spent time with the Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens and the Redskins since his rookie season in 2007. With 9 total games under his belt he started 7 of those where he has thrown for 1,417 yards with 3 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Beck has also rushed for 3 touchdowns in his limited playing time.

Once considered a quarterback with a high upside, the 2nd round pick (4oth overall) in Beck has never really gained traction as a starting NFL quarterback. In Washington he had his chance to start, but it was a revolving quarterback rotation with Rex Grossman.

Coming to Houston it would be a safe assumption to say that Beck will be the third string quarterback if he can beat out Case Keenum for that spot. The Texans already have Matt Schaub and T.J. Yates as their starter and primary backup quarterbacks going into the 2012 season.
