You know there are times when I have to drag myself here. I have not read the Chronicle. When I say I never read it that's close. I read it very, very rarely. I did not care to read about football today. I have not read DG, DB &D, Battle Red Blog, AOL Fanhouse or Houston Diehards. I have no idea what the "buzz" is about this game.
It is just one game and by the time the Ravens get to town I'll be on the lot drinking, grilling and having a good time. I keep telling myself that.
Matt Schaub is not an unproven commodity. He is what he is. Sometimes he is good. Sometimes he is not. He has never shown to be consistently good. I watched him roll out past the tackles. I watched him hold the ball and get sacked. It was chilling. A David Carr like performance.
I watched him throw to people that were so obviously covered you have to wonder how much of the game he can see. He looked like me when I play Madden.
I picked the Texans to win because I enjoy the Kool Aid. I am not going to pick against them. My expectations were lower. I was hoping to see a well fought battle. In fact that would have satisfied me. But this thing that happened yesterday is so depressing because I am beginning to entertain the notion that this is as good as they are.
Someone tell me why we weren't rolling out a little more that we did ? Wouldn't that help ? At least you can know and dictate the angles of attack ? Maybe ? Am I too far out here ?
Jacques Reeves and Demarcus Faggins do not belong on an NFL football team. Fred Bennett should not be starting but this is how bad it is as far as depth. I hope he has a quick learning curve. Maybe we should all thank Professor Hines for the time he spent teaching young Fred ? I believe that he does have the talent but .. maybe .. not ? Hopefully after the Texans play the Ravens I can sit back and wish I had never written this.
Before the games I have a ritual. I set up three clipboards. One for the the defensive plays. One for our offense. One with a roster where I can jot some quick notes. I track every play. Position. Down. Distance. Run. Pass. Penalty.
I have actually been tracking some Texans formations. Rewinding the VCR (we are low tech) watching the plays unfold.
I put that crap down early yesterday. It smelled like autopsy.
I am going to wrap this up to. It has a similar odor.
