The Browns have released several players, including Shaun Rogers, which you already know. While the cuts leave the defense pretty thin on the defensive line, one area that the team had plenty of bodies was at line backer. It makes sense that Bowens and Barton would be among the first to go, as they are on the unkind side of 30 and not getting any quicker.
But rather than bash the departing, I thought I’d say thank you. Particularly to David Bowens who who was only with us for two seasons, but leaves us with two very memorable performances.
Bowens’ numbers over these 2 seasons are not pro-bowl caliber, but they aren’t the worst on the team either. Bowens played in 31 of 32 games for the Browns during his tenure here. His 5.5 sacks in ’09 were good for second on the team. He finishes his Browns career with 111 tackles, 6 sacks, 6 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble, 3 interceptions and 2 very big defensive touchdowns.
