MVN Jets:
Welcome to TSX on MVN. If you followed the blog at http://thesportsexpress.wordpress.com, then you will enjoy new views, thoughts, and opinions on sports. Express yourself, but keep it clean! Let's talk about the NFL and the games of the weekend.Week 3 of the NFL Season is in the books, and for some teams, it has been quite a few surprises. The Broncos are 3-0 under new head coach Josh McDaniels, the Bengals WOULD be 3-0 had it not been for that crazy tipped pass (courtesy of the Broncos). Brett Favre proved that there is some magic left in him. Of course, we can not forget the ending of the Lions' 19-game losing streak. But as many surprises, there have been disappointments. Three division champions from 2008 are now 0-3 (Titans, Dolphins, and Panthers), The defending Super Bowl Champions are 1-2, and although 2-1, the Patriots are under-performing a little bit. Maybe it's Tom Brady getting adjusted to game play, but the Patriots are going to do what they do best and make adjustments to get back to the dominating form that made them the team of the decade. So here were the Best & Worst of the WeekTHE BESTMark Sanchez- Sanchez is really showing why he was NFL-ready when former head coach Pete Carroll thought he wasn't. He has poise of a veteran and his new teammates, fans, are really starting to believe that he can deliver victories and consistency to this team. With a great defense led by coach Rex Ryan, this is a team that has the potential to go very far. Sanchez is the first QB after the NFL Merger (since 1970) to start a rookie year 3-0. Detroit Lions Fans- Through the past 19 games, the Lions have suffered through tough losses, blowouts, and on most days, just awful football. But one thing is for sure, this team's fan base is extremely loyal, they still sold out games to avoid blackouts, they cheered through the good and the bad and the ugly. To see the players thank the fans for their loyalty throughout the tough times is a sign of a new era with the franchise.New Orleans Saints Defense- This team finally has a defense to compliment their offense... they held the Buffalo Bills to seven points. Pierre Thomas had a great day on the ground and the Saints with this new and improved defense have definitely proved that they are not just the team to beat in the NFC, but the team to beat in the entire NFL. THE WORST The Carolina Panthers- Pick a person, any person. Jake Delhomme's interceptions, no WR help for Steve Smith, Steve Smith running the wrong route which clinched the game, Julius Peppers getting $17M to do nothing. This is a great team that is a royal mess. The bye week could not come at a better time, as the ship needs to be corrected in the next 13 days. The Panthers need to get back to what they do best: run the football, when DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart run well, it opens up the pass for Delhomme. On defense, the unit needs to learn to tackle. Aside from Jon Beason and Thomas Davis, these guys can not hit. Much work is needed if they want to keep their already slim playoff hopes alive.San Francisco 49ers Prevent Defense- Clearly Mike Singletary, who is a legendary linebacker and defensive mind forgot one thing: If you play a prevent defense, you prevent your team from winning the game. Brett Favre's hail mary pass to Greg Lewis in the final seconds stole a victory from this team. As good of a defensive team the 49ers are, they should have had better coverage than what was displayed. But on the flipside, Favre has done nothing BUT torch the 49ers in his career, and he did it again, just in a different uniform. The Kansas City Chiefs- After their 34-14 blowout loss to the Eagles, The Chiefs have lost 26 of their last 28 games. Ever since Clark Hunt inherited the franchise after the passing of his father, the Chiefs have been on the wrong side of the scoreboard. It has eroded to the point that there are no big names. Matt Cassel has not lived up to the hype in Todd Haley's offense, and the depth at QB, WR, and on defense is so thin, that there can't be much done to correct it. All the Chiefs can do is keep playing. The Cleveland Browns- The Browns are atrocious. Brady Quinn is 1-5 as a starter, Derek Anderson enters the game and throws three interceptions. Eric Mangini is looking nothing like the Man-genius, as he has fans wondering why he kept the QB battle a secret. He will announce who is the starting QB for the next game on Wednesday. The Browns need stability and consistency and with a lack of leadership at the starting QB position, they will not get that in the near future. THE BEST OF THE WORSTJason Campbell- Campbell went 27/40 for 340 yards and 2 TDs, he did have a costly interception, but he did not have a bad game, and it was not on him. It was bad play-calling and a lack of heart on the team's part, and the way they played was as if they WANT head coach Jim Zorn to get fired. I have no idea what it is, but to play that hard, out play your opponent, and your team STILL loses, that's just not cool. Hope you enjoy this post and many more posts of The Sports eXpress here on MVN!
