Defensive ends are difficult to find and more times than not defensive ends are drafted because of their size and basic combine measurables more than anything. However, these players frequently fail to produce as expected and teams are constantly left looking for talent at that position. The list of great NFL defensive ends is short, and the Packers list is even shorter, but near the top of that list you will find one long name. Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila is the best defensive end the Green Bay Packers have ever drafted. The Nigerian-born talent fans lovingly called “KGB” was a draft day steal as the Packers grabbed him in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. After playing sparingly in his rookie season the San Diego State University alum tallied double-digit sack totals in the four consecutive seasons following; during which span he led the NFC in sacks and was voted to the Pro Bowl. It seemed as though KGB was all over the field and that if he wasn’t getting a sack himself then he was causing one. He had a knack for blowing plays up and of course we all remember his pick-six against the Bears on Monday Night Football in Champagne. Unfortunately his career was ended by a combination of decline and the arrival of Dom Capers and his 3-4 defense, but he played at least seven of his nine years in Green Bay at a very high level which is why he retired as Green Bay’s all-time leading sack artist.
