The brief and disappointing Brandon Weeden era in Cleveland Browns football could be over. Weeden the No. 22 overall pick in 2012 was benched on Wednesday in favor of ninth-year pro Jason Campbell 31 who will start Sunday against the 7-0 Kansas City Chiefs. It marked the second time in three weeks that Weeden has been benched when healthy. The first time was Oct. 3 against the Bills when coach Rob Chudzinski started Brian Hoyer even though Weeden had fully recovered from him sprained thumb. "It's a tough decision'' coach Rob Chudzinski said Wednesday morning. "Obviously Brandon was disappointed but he's a pro. I believe this is in the best interest of the team ultimately and gives us the best chance to win. I'm excited to see what Jason will do with this opportunity." If Campbell (6-5 230) stays healthy it's possible that Weeden the former first-rounder out of Oklahoma State has played his last football for the Browns. But Chudzinski insisted it's not a long-term decision. "We're going to evaluate (the quarterback situation) on a week-to-week basis'' Chudzinski said. "Again the whole goal is to put the guy out there that gives us the best opportunity to win. Going back and forth isn’t ideal but ultimately finding the production and the consistency that we need is the goal.” If Chudzinski must revert to Weeden at some point - the Browns only have two quarterbacks on their roster - will the second-year pro be prepared to handle it mentally? "I believe so'' said Chudzinski. "I believe he'll be ready as he has in the past. He’s shown his mental toughness and will continue to do so. I have no doubts that he'll be ready.” Weeden who fell to 0-4 as a starter this season and 5-14 overall with Sunday's 31-13 loss in Green Bay spent time at his locker during the interview period but declined to talk.
