As players have bought in to Greg Schiano’s system and beliefs, others begin to buy in to the Buccaneers. On Friday, Marc Sessler of NFL Around The League writes that the Bucs are playoff material and lists several reasons why. So naturally, the first reason to head his list is none other than quarterback Josh Freeman. You can’t call this a playoff team if you don’t buy into the quarterback, and I’m a believer in Josh Freeman. He’s one of a handful of true gunslingers in today’s NFL. Sure, he’s guilty of enigmatic, drive-killing passes, but he’s also capable of jaw-dropping throws into tight spaces. People forget how young Freeman is, because he’s been a mainstay in Tampa since 2009 (Andy Dalton and Colin Kaepernick are his elders). Almost any game you watch reveals Freeman’s need for development, but also his strengths. Sessler would go on and give two video examples of Freeman’s throws — good and bad — against the Chiefs. Other reasons on why he feels the Buccaneers can be playoff bound are the offseason acquisitions of Darrelle Revis and Dashon Goldson, Doug Martin, the Buccaneers top-ranked run defense, and the combination of the coaches and front office. Sessler ends it by saying he’s “banking on Freeman’s continued growth and a return to form by the best defensive player in the NFL.” His breakdown can be read here. It was only a matter of time before the Buccaneers got more recognition. More and more are beginning to see the potential this team has but winning football games will be the reason why people will buy in.
