Phillip Rivers is always going to be under fire in his career. He comes from the 2004 draft class, one that included Ben Roethlisberger and Eli Manning. Both Roethlisberger and Manning have combined for 5 Super Bowl appearances and 4 Super Bowl titles. Rivers will always be compared to those two quarterbacks. Now more than ever, it seems like the pressure is on for Rivers to perform. His performance in the last two seasons was greatly disappointing. Rivers threw 15 picks in 2012 and 20 picks in 2011. He’s also been quite the fumbling machine, coughing up the ball 9 times in 2011 and 15 in 2012. Of course, Rivers hasn’t had a great supporting cast over the last couple years either. The Chargers’ running game hasn’t been the same since LaDainian Tomlinson was apart of the team. Over the course of his career, Rivers hasn’t been given any real threats at wide receiver besides Vincent Jackson. The offensive weapons around him in 2013 will be very lackluster as well. The Chargers did upgrade the offense line, but other than that the offense looks the same. I can’t see this team being much more different than they were in 2012. The Chargers haven’t had an above .500 record since 2010, and haven’t made the playoffs since 2009. And It’s only going to be harder for the Chargers to get back to the postseason this season. The AFC West is going to be a very tough division in 2013. The Broncos are far and away better than any team in the division, and the Chiefs added QB Alex Smith. Rivers really has some bad luck, he’s in a bad situation. Rivers is a good quarterback, and I expect the Chargers to stick with him, even if they do have a subpar season in 2013. Phillip Rivers isn’t the problem in San Diego. Need NFL Tickets? The post The Chargers Lack Offensive Weapons appeared first on Pro Football Zone.
