By JOHN P. WISE One Great Season Rashard Mendenhall is the latest pro athlete to make controversial comments through social media. And to have them dissected on ESPN. And to have his team brass issue a statement. And to issue his own statement. I have nothing but respect for the Pittsburgh Steelers organization and I hope the Rooney family stays in charger forever there. I realize the Steelers' response is in line with what any team or company would have done, but why have we gotten comfortable with that trend? Office politics are weak for many reasons, but what's wrong with an employee sharing his opinions in a very popular public forum? If athletes' disclaimed in their Twitter profiles something like "The opinions shared here are not the opinions of my employer," would that be enough to allow the next Mendenhall to speak freely?
