The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Houston 27 @ Jacksonville 7

The Good

Yeah, just don’t.

Texans Running Game. Some teams have all the luck. To hit a home run with Arian Foster and his high stepping. Then when it’s time for Foster to take a seat, to rest his aching tootsies, Ben Tate comes in and beats the Jaguars to a pulp. Some thought, myself included, that Houston wouldn’t be able to sustain their prolific run game with the losses they endured on their offensive line. Yes, Dear. I was wrong, you were right. Perhaps the Texans can be the exception to the rule; that you don’t need to be a passing team, to win in this passing league. We will see.

The Bad

WAIT! But I’m a Prince!

Blaine Gabbert. Aside from his Disney Prince-like locks, Blaine Reginald Gabbert has it rough. No, not millions of dollars or countless masses wearing his name on their shirt. He is just not a very good NFL quarterback. He flashed some potential in pre-season, and in a week 1 overtime loss to the Minnesota Vikings. But when push comes to shove (him to the ground), Gabbert panics. Even when paired with Justin Blackmon, Gabbert is unable to establish himself as the franchise quarterback the Jaguars thought they were getting when they drafted him #10 overall in 2011. One thing Gabbert has only reemphasized to me, if you pick at #10, DO NOT draft a QB.

The Ugly

Do you like my Mustache?

Jacksonville. Mr. Khan. While you look a little silly, grinning ear to ear, on the cover of Forbes magazine, you would have been better off just buying distressed real estate in Florida, rather than a distressed football team. The Maurice Jones-Drew situation was a disaster, and the team suffered because of it. Gabbert isn’t going to cut it. Justin Blackmon is already in the graduate program at the Dez Bryant School for making an ass of yourself. The NFL might be the country’s cash cow, but its going to take years, and YEARS before things turn around in Jacksonville. Years and TONS of money. The article in Forbes, in case you missed it, was titled “How To Blow a Billion, or Why Drafting a Punter in the 3rd round really is a savvy business move.”
