This was the scene as Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson leaped into the Reliant Stadium stands after his game winning catch and run against the Jags on Sunday in overtime.
In a game in which one of the teams lost their starting QB to injury, and the other had their all pro running back struggle to get it going all game. There was still a total yardage mark of 1098 and 9 TD’s the Houston Texans escaped the Jacksonville Jaguars with a close overtime win on Sunday in Reliant Stadium. It took career games from QB Matt Schaub and WR Andre Johnson who scored the game winning TD in overtime to get the win and continue the 4 game winning streak of the AFC South leading Texans.
Offensively it looked as if the Texans would run away with this game early after Jaguars starting QB Blaine Gabbert went down from a big hit by safety Daniel Manning early in the 1st quarter. The Jags never did back down though even without maybe the teams 2 top offensive weapons in Gabbert and RB Maurice Jones-Drew both out of the game. The game was tied at 17′s at halftime and neither team seemed to have the upper hand on the offensive side through most of the game, but after trailing by 10 points in the 3rd quarter the Texans turned it on to make a comeback late in the game. Late TD passes to TE’s Garrett Graham and James Casey propelled the Texans back from a 14 point hole late in the 4th and took this game into overtime. Texans QB Matt Schaub led 2 scoring drives in the overtime period, 1 that led to a FG and the other the game winning catch to WR Andre Johnson off a screen play that went 48 yards. Schaub who led the league in passing in 2009, had the game of his career passing for 527 yards and 5 TD’s while completing a ridiculous 78% of his passes in a game where he threw the ball more than 50 times. Along with Schaub Andre Johnson had a career high in yards and catches on Sunday with 14 catches for 273 yards and the TD to win the game for his team. Johnson who’d been hearing he had lost a step or was getting older showed he could still get it done with the best of them if given the chance by opposing defenses. In the first game between these 2 teams Johnson had only 3 catches for 21 yards. But was shadowed all game with double coverage while the Jags allowed the Texans to run wild for over 200 yards rushing in the week 2 match up. With their emphasis on stopping the run, Schaub went to Johnson early and often this week.

Defensively this was probably the worst showing for the Texans all season long considering who they were playing and that the game was at home. The Jaguars came into this game ranked last in the league in total yards per game averaging only 283 yards per contest. On Sunday they had over 400 yards of total offense and most of that was through the air, where the Jags have struggled to get it done game after game with 2nd year starter Blaine Gabbert at the helm. Veteran Chad Henne stepped in and proved to be a challenge for the Houston Texans defense to stop all afternoon as he moved the ball up and down the field without having a single turnover. Henne finished with 354 yards passing and 4 TD’s against a defense that has clamped down and stopped the pass for the past 4 weeks after allowing Aaron Rodgers to throw for 6 TD’s against them during a Sunday night match up earlier in the year. The big plays really hurt the Texans defense in this one, “There was no way we should have given up that many big plays,” safety Glover Quin said. “Tackling, leverage — everything hurt us. But we buckled down in the fourth quarter and overtime. We focused on not giving up big plays, and we made some big stops. We know what our mistakes were, and we have to correct them in a hurry.” The Texans face a much more dynamic offense in the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving day, on a short week. If they plan on coming out with the win they will have to fix the mistakes and do it with haste.
One of the few bright spots from the Houston Texans defense on Sunday, JJ Watt records a sack on QB Chad Henne. Taking his total to 11.5 on the season.

Talk about one of the wildest games we have seen the Houston Texans involved in, but this shootout was one that Texans’ fans can be proud of. It provided 640 yards of offense for the Texans and a game for the franchise history book for Andre Johnson.

For weeks Andre Johnson has been saying he was finally feeling like himself again after last year's injury plagued season.
