Yes, I said it. The Indianapolis Colts are going to the playoffs. After last seasons disaster, and the agony of saying good bye to Peyton Manning, congratulations are in order. Colts owner, Jim Irasy. Yep. Tears were shed, and Jim Irsay, the Colts owner, was put between a rock and a hard place. Does he keep, arguably, the cities most beloved athlete who had just had neck surgery - again - or does he start from scratch with number one draft pick Andrew Luck? Ultimately, you can't argue with the results. If there was ever a time to bring in a rookie quarterback, this was the year. The Colts were awarded the first pick in the draft, so they didn't have to trade up. What that means as far as scheduling is that they were also going to get a very easy schedule, ie. a schedule favorable to bringing in a rookie quarterback. And Luck and the Colts have taken advantage of the situation. They are 5-3 against teams with a .500 record or worse. That does include an opening day loss against 0-0 Chicago. So you could say they're 5-2. They currently sit at 7-4, behind the 10-1 Texans in the AFC South. The Colts are also the top wild card team at the moment, ahead of 6-5 teams Baltimore and Cincinnati. The Texans schedule down the stretch makes a playoff spot more likely. They travel to Detroit this weekend, then Houston two more times, Kansas City and Tennessee. Personally, I think having to play the same division team twice with only one other game between those games is beyond stupid. But I don't make the schedule, so.... If they can pull of a win at Detroit, and wins against Kansas City and Tennessee, that would put them at 10 wins, and all but in the playoffs. And after what the Colts have been through, and this year considering head coach Chuck Pagano having been sidelined with leukemia, they deserve it.
