As a Cleveland Browns fan I wanted to touch on something that is near and dear to me as a fan and that is the "Dog Pound" which is the name for the Bleacher section behind the East End Zone in what is now known as "First Energy Stadium", but what is most important, it is the home of  the very best and the most zealous fans in professional football. The history of the name goes as follows. At the start of the 1985 training camp, Browns cornerback Hanford Dixon gave his defensive unit the name "Dawgs". Dixon and his fellow cornerback, Frank Minnifield, started the idea of the dog-cat relationship which eventually spun into the Dawg Pound. The concept was that the quarterback was the cat while the Browns defense, specifically the defensive line, was the dog. The plan was that whenever the defense would make a big play such as a sack, the defensive linemen and the linebackers would bark. As this progressed through training camp, Browns fans who were in...

NFL News: Browns extend long snapper Christian Yount

The Cleveland Browns extended a snapper on Tuesday, but not the one that fans have been clamoring for. Long snapper Christian Yount has been inked to a five year extension the team announced. “Christian has proven that he’s a reliable contributor,” Head Coach Rob Chudzinski said. “He’s an important cog at an often undervalued position. We’re happy to have him on our team...

Resting Richardson is the right move

BEREA, Ohio - Thursday night's preseason opener is big for the Cleveland Browns because it's the home "game" debut for a new owner, a new staff, a bunch of new players and a new product all involved hope is on its way to NFL relevance. One step at a time. But an early preseason cameo is more a necessary evil than any kind of real step, and with the Browns needing...

Browns' Brandon Weeden sharp in 27-19 preseason victory over St. Louis Rams

Brandon Weeden won over some of his critics and got a skeptical town fired up about the season with an impressive preseason debut against the Rams Thursday night. Weeden did everything he set out to do in the first exhibition game - a 27-19 Browns victory at FirstEnergy Stadium -- and then some. In two series of work he completed 10 of 13 attempts for 112 yards and a two-yard touchdown...

Browns to likely rest Richardson for Thursday's preseason opener

The Cleveland Browns take on the St. Louis Rams in their first preseason game on Thursday, and running back Trent Richardson will probably stay on the sidelines, reports Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer. Last Thursday, Richardson was kicked in his right shin at practice, and the team doesn't want to risk any further injury to their lead back, who they have big plans for in...

Browns ready for preseason opener without Richardson

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Browns are playing it safe with Trent Richardson. Cleveland's star running back will not play in the club's exhibition opener on Thursday night against the St. Louis Rams as he continues to recover from an injured right shin. Richardson was accidentally kicked in the shin -- the same one he hurt during spring practice -- last week, and the Browns won...

For Browns like Tori Gurley, Thursday’s preseason game is urgent

The Browns open preseason play this Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium against the St. Louis Rams. The big storylines will be how the team performs in brand new offensive and defensive systems. Brandon Weeden’s plays will be put under the biggest microscope Cleveland has to offer. Whether or not Trent Richardson plays will get it’s fair share of attention. Jabaal Sheard...

Cleveland Browns impress while others fall flat in preseason debut

Last night was great. It was an evening all about football, and even though it was just preseason action, I couldn't get enough. For much of the night, I was flipping between games or watching NFL Network's "RedZone" style coverage. Here's some quick observations about the evening. 10/13, 10/14 and 6/7 — that was the stat line for each of the three quarterbacks...

Weeden, Browns pound Rams

Montario Hardesty Sidelined by Hamstring Injury

Hardesty is likely now battling with Brandon Jackson for a roster spot.

Browns 27, Rams 19

Brandon Weeden's goals were to manage the game, not make any mistakes and keep Cleveland's offense going forward. He did much more than that. Weeden made coach Rob Chudzinski's debut a success, and the second-year quarterback may have stopped any controversy before it started. Weeden threw a touchdown pass and led Cleveland on two scoring drives, and Travis Benjamin...
