It’s very easy to pile on Michael Vick after his 4 interception performance against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Anyone who reads this site with any regularity knows without any doubt that I’m no fan of Michael Vick. Never have been, probably never will be. The problem is that Michael Vick is the Quarterback of the Eagles, which happens to be the team I love and would give anything to see win a Super Bowl. Because of that, I find myself very conflicted. You see, I would love to see what Nick Foles could do as the QB of this team, but Foles is a rookie, and chances are no matter how well he plays, unless there is divine intervention, he’s not likely going to lead this team to a Super Bowl win as a rookie. If (more likely when) we see Nick Foles, it will probably mean that Vick is injured. As much as I may not care for Michael Vick’s style of quarterbacking, I certainly am smart enough to realize that the Eagles best chance of winning in the near term rests with Michael Vick. The Eagles demonstrated Sunday (a small sample size) that their defense is much improved from last season. There has never been any doubt about whether they have the offensive weapons. The pieces are there. The question is/was/always will be whether Vick can stay healthy and limit his turnovers, and I have zero confidence in his ability to do it. The Eagles are built to win right now. They have the talent and the ability to go all the way and win. I just don’t think they can do that with Michael Vick at the helm. I’ve heard year after year that Vick would work to limit the turnovers. With the exception of 7 games 2 seasons ago, he hasn’t done that. I’ve heard that Vick needs to protect himself more on the field. He hasn’t done that either. I’ve heard that Vick would work to pick up blitzes better and read defenses better. Haven’t seen it. So why am I supposed to believe he can help this team win? So, we arrive at my conundrum. Do i root for Michael Vick even though I have no faith in him or do I wish for Nick Foles and hope this Eagles team can keep it together for a couple of years while Foles puts his game together or the Eagles draft and develop another franchise QB? Frankly it feels like a no-win situation, and as an Eagles fan, I feel like I’ve suffered through enough of those no-win situations already.Similar Posts:

Philadelphia Eagles: Andy Reid Deflects Blame from Mike Vick

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said on Monday that quarterback Mike Vick wasn’t the only one to blame in the disappointing display of Philadelphia’s offense on Sunday. I know [QB] Michael [Vick] took the blame yesterday [but] it’s not a one man show. That’s not what it is. Everybody had a piece of this pie starting with me and the coaches. You can’t play like...

Why Michael Vick May Cost Andy Reid His Coaching Job in Philadelphia

Jeff Zelevansky / Getty Images Just because Andy Reid is the NFL’s longest-tenured head coach doesn’t mean his position with the Philadelphia Eagles is secured by any means. Ever since taking over in 1999, Reid has been able to elevate the Eagles franchise from mediocrity into the upper echelon of the league, but has never been able to deliver the City of Brotherly Love what...

Turnovers doom Browns against Eagles

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Michael Vick overcame four interceptions by throwing a 4-yard touchdown pass to Clay Harbor with 1:18 left as the Philadelphia Eagles opened the season with a nerve-racking 17-16 win over the Cleveland Browns. Vick led the Eagles on a 91-yard scoring drive, capping it with his short toss to Harbor on his career-high 56th pass. Before Vick rallied his team, the...

Bad Day for Vick in Dawg Pound: Eagles Still Can’t Give Game to Browns

“[I]t’s not what anyone expected from the golden-armed redhead on opening day.” — Mary Kay Cabot on Brandon Weeden “I did not see a guy that was starry-eyed. Not at all. … I’m not discouraged at all.” — Pat Shurmur on Brandon Weeden “Aw, man, I gotta get out of Cleveland. I gotta get out of Cleveland.” — Michael Vick on Cleveland ————— If you wondered...

Baltimore Ravens vs. Philadelphia Eagles: Three Bold Predictions

The Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) will be hosting the Baltimore Ravens (1-0) on Sunday for their 2012 home opener. The Eagles struggled mightily against the Browns last week, but scratched and clawed their way to a victory. The Ravens on the other hand, destroyed the Bengals offensively and defensively. When I previously broke down the Eagles' schedule, I said this would be their toughest...

Eagles sneak out of Cleveland with win, calls for Foles can be heard

Eagles win despite Vicks poor play Ugly, that is the only word you can use in describing the Eagles 17-16 win over the Cleveland Browns Sunday. The fact that the Eagles won the game with 5 turnovers is nothing short of a miracle, well it did have much to do with how bad the Browns are. The Eagles defense kept them in the game, confusing rookie Brandon Weeden with coverages. Weeden completed...

Cleveland Browns proved the Philadelphia Eagles are NOT Dynasty

Even though the Cleveland Browns lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in week 1, they proved a lot to the NFL world.  The biggest thing?  That Michael Vick is just as ignorant as Vince Young and that the Philadelphia Eagles are no where close to being a dynasty. The Cleveland Browns kept this game uncomfortably close for the Eagles.  As a matter of fact, the Browns took the lead on...

Saints Lose to the Skins? Pfft. Pfft. Pfft.

It’s a bad game when the Saints MVP candidate is Astroturf, as it had a better shot of tripping up Robert Griffin III than its defense. I must hand it to RGIII, however. He looked mature in his first outing and in time will emerge as a smarter, more controlled version of Michael Vick. And, that’s gonna be dangerous for all us non-Redskins football fans. Goodness gracious, could...

Eagles win ugly over Browns, 17-16... but I'll take it...

I don't discount any win in the NFL... and every opening game has so many wild-card factors going for it, you have to be satisfied with the Eagles' cardiac special in Cleveland on Sunday...Yeah, I know... Vick was off his chang... the timing wasn't there for much of the game...the pass-play calls coming in from Marty were stretched a tad too vertical in the beginning...

NFL Week 2: Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere

In the fourth quarter of the Eagles-Browns game, right after Philadelphia QB Mike Vick threw the TAINT that gave the Browns the upset lead, I looked up at the out of town scores. And realized that, with the hopes of an Eagles cover long gone, I was now starting down the barrel of 1-6 on the picks. Not good!Well, like adulthood with the womenfolk, It Got Better. We were .500 in the...

The Razzball Fantasy Football Podcast – JB Gets Gerharted & Nick Gets Hillis’ed As We Preview Week 2

It was an exciting week 1, with a lot of interesting performances, including several players shrugging off injury concerns to yield giant workloads.  JB got burned on his Toby Gerhart love, while Nick was left scratching his head saying, “What you talking about, Hillis?” In this week’s podcast, we preview all the matchups in week 2 while reacting, both other and under, to...

Eagles were "saved by their defense"... ...

I wanted to post GK Brizer's position-group grade on the Eagles win in Cleveland before I have to run on down to M&T Bank Stadium for the disturbingly early kickoff (7:00 P.M. EST) of  Monday night's Bengals-Ravens game.I'll be back to add to this artcle after the Ravens game is finished. Hopefully many Eagles fans will be tuned into the Ravens game as a scouting...
