The NFL just gave Browns’ Myles Garrett a huge advantage that he should dominate in Week 1 of the NFL season
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL just did the reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett a solid to open the 2024 NFL season.

Garrett and the Cleveland Browns will host the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 at 4:25 p.m. ET in what will be Tom Brady’s debut in the booth on Fox.

Myles Garrett is going to have a favorable matchup with rookie LT Tyler Guyton

This is no slight to Guyton, but the NFL gave him a bad draw right out of the gates. He can look at it as an iron sharpening opportunity, but it is not all that fair.

Dallas hopes they found their left tackle of the future at pick No. 29 in the first round of the recent NFL Draft. While he is a talented player out of Oklahoma, facing the game’s best pass rusher right off the rip in the NFL is quite the task.

Garrett has gone back to Texas to play the Cowboys once in his career and he had two sacks and a forced fumble against them in 2020. Then, it was Terence Steele who tried to protect Dak Prescott’s blindside. That was a game that the Browns won by a score of 49-38.

Since then, Garrett has become a more complete and dominant pass rusher. The three-time All-Pro had 14 sacks and four forced fumbles in 16 games played last season to help him win the DPOY award.

Now, he’s going to have an opportunity to start the 2024 season with a bang. With Guyton being a rookie, he just won’t have the experience of facing a high-profile pass rusher like Garrett. Sure, he will be going up against Micah Parsons in practice but nothing can replicate game reps.

Week 1 has a chance to be pretty special in Cleveland with their season opener being at home and against a playoff team like the Cowboys with Brady on the call. Don’t be surprised if Garrett leaves his handprints on the game and gives the rookie a tough debut.
