Today is a day that Lavonte David and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would like to forget. Week 1 of their fresh season is in the books; and if the books had a box labeled “ugly,” it would be checked off. The Bucs started the game as if they were stuck in the preseason.During their first six-play possession, they were flagged three times. On their second possession, quarterback Josh Freeman fumbled and was forced to kick the ball out of the end zone, resulting in a safety. Their third possession was a three-and-out.From there on, besides an interception from Freeman, the Bucs seemed to have most of the momentum. Their defense forced two turnovers from the New York Jets' rookie quarterback Geno Smith, and it appeared that Josh Freeman was going to have another come from behind win added to his resume. But then, with 38 seconds left, Smith drove his team to midfield. With under 20 seconds remaining, and still out of kicker Nick Folk's range, Smith scrambled out of the pocket and pic...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David committed a critical error in the final seconds of Sunday's season opener against the New York Jets that cost his team a victory.
With seven seconds left and the Bucs holding a 17-15 lead, Jets QB Geno Smith was running out of bounds just past midfield. However, as Smith stepped out of bounds, David unnecessarily pushed him down...
TAMPA, Fla. -- The day after, no Tampa Bay Buccaneers defender worried about linebacker Lavonte David's frame of mind. They had witnessed his reaction to one of the opening week's most inexplicable penalties -- "He was definitely upset, and you could see that on him," linebacker Jonathan Casillas said but there was no concern about how the second-year player would...
The New York Jets were expected to be one of the biggest jokes of the NFL season, but they managed to pull out a victory in their first game. They can thank Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David for the assist. David pushed Geno Smith after the Jets quarterback had already stepped out of bounds […]
Lavonte David sat on a stool in front of his locker, his head down, trying to make sense of what just happened.
A couple of Buccaneers teammates came over and patted the linebacker on the back. None of it did anything to make his huge mistake go away.
Nick Folk kicked a 48-yard field goal with 2 seconds remaining after David's personal foul on Geno Smith following a big run...
Lavonte David probably cost the Buccaneers a win. David had a late hit penalty on Jets QB Geno Smith with seven seconds left in the game. The penalty put the Jets in field goal range where kicker Nick Folds drilled a 48-yarder for the 18-17 win. Oh my. This one will hurt.
Josh Freeman may be the leader of the Buccaneers' huddle, but that's as far as his reach now extends.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Freeman was not chosen to be one of the team's captains for the 2013 season. The fifth-year quarterback had held the honor for the previous three years.
Instead, wide receiver Vincent Jackson and guard Davin Joseph will function...
Every professional athlete is supposed to lead to some extent, but no position in sports requires leadership as explicitly as the NFL quarterback.
You're orchestrating the offense, calling plays in the huddle, and generally the most visible member of your squad. Before it was co-opted by Gregg Williams, the quote "Kill the head and the body will die" -- or else, "...
I’ve always said that Josh Freeman is not a true NFL QB1. At least not for a real team. If Jay Cutler is a “top 15 NFL QB” like Boomer Esiason said, than Tampa Bay Buccaneers signal caller Josh Freeman is a “top 30″ quarterbacking talent.
Today, he faced the train wreck that is the New York Jets, and turned in a 67.9 passer rating and 22.5 QBR stinker. Facing a less than...
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Nick Folk kicked a 48-yard field goal with two seconds remaining after Lavonte David's personal foul penalty kept New York's drive alive, and the Jets pulled out an improbable 18-17 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the season opener for both teams Sunday. With the Jets trailing 17-15 and time running out, rookie Geno Smith scrambled for...
Geno Smith rolled right, darted down the sideline and stepped out of bounds, knowing he and the New York Jets needed some major help to pull off a comeback victory.
Then came a sudden shove in his shoulder.
Smith hit the ground, and so did a few yellow penalty flags.
Lavonte David was called for a personal foul for his late hit on Smith, and Nick Folk kicked a 48-yard field goal...

Hooray, it’s finally time for some 2013 fantasy football start ‘em, sit ‘em analysis!
After an exciting bout between the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night (where they combined for 76 points), that game certainly woke everyone up that the NFL is back...
It’s too bad that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn’t choose to wear their throw back uniforms Sunday against the New York Jets. As someone who has followed the Buccaneers since 1976, I’ve witnessed some horrible football in my life.Sunday was some terrible football. While there were positive moments coming away on Sunday, but the majority of the game featured a team that was undisciplined...
Chicks, this has been a particularly long offseason for the Buccaneers.
This time last year, Bucs fans were prepping for a new start. Greg Schiano was set to begin his first year as an NFL head coach, taking over a team that had mutinied against “players’ coach” Raheem Morris the previous year.
Offseason news centered around the new stringent discipline in place and the...
