Avast ye mateys, take heed: The Pirate will return.

At least that's what Mike Leach told the Associated Press in a recent phone interview. The fired Texas Tech coach said he'd like to return to the college sidelines, although he didn't say whether it would be as a head coach or a coordinator.

Seriously, what's keeping Leach unemployed? Why hasn't a big-name program already added him as its O.C.? Are schools waiting until the ongoing lawsuit to make a move?

You can look up and down last year's total offense rankings and find teams that could use Leach and his Air Raid offense, but there's only one place where he could make a gigantic splash: LSU.

Last season the Tigers had the nation's 112th-ranked attack and were 97th against the pass, and that was with a guy who was as second-year starter in Jordan Jefferson. In the last nine years, Leach's Red Raiders led the nation in passing five times. Could you imagine what Leach could do with the speed that Les Miles recruits at the receiver positions? You could guarantee the rest of the SEC West would raise an eyebrow if Leach landed in Baton Rouge.

Of course, it's unlikely. The next place we'll see Leach will probably be in say C-USA or the MAC, following the Mike Price plan of second chances.

It's too bad really, while coaches spent the recruiting season trying to find ways to make their teams better, a true, proven solution was in Key West, fishing and getting to know the locals. The Pirate will sail again, and if Miles, or another BCS conference coach wants a monumental weapon up his sleeve, they'd better scoop him up.
