Seems like all we’re seeing is talk of who would be the four heads on the NFL’s Mount Rushmore or the NBA’s and so on and so forth. I decided that since I cover the Pittsburgh Steelers I’d give you the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Mount Rushmore. A storied franchise to say the least with countless players who could make cases to be a head on this mountain. With only four to choose from this was no easy task. I took into consideration every player, coach and anyone involved in molding the Steelers’ franchise into what it is today. Without further ado, I give the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Mount Rushmore. Head Number One: Art Rooney, “The Chief” The Steelers wouldn’t be the organization they are today without the guidance and leadership of Art Rooney or as everyone knows him, “The Chief.” Rooney was the founder of the Steelers back in 1933 and owned the team up until his death in 1988. Rooney made the Steelers a legendary franchise and the team is still owned under the Rooney name. Having the name Rooney associated with the organization has been one of the most unique things when you consider teams like the Cleveland Browns who whip through owners like socks. Rooney was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1964 and rightfully so. He’s forever a face of the Steelers and deserves to have his face on the Mount Rushmore of Steelers. A proper sculpting of his face with a big ole cigar would be ideal. Head Number Two: Chuck Noll What’s a team without it’s coach? Chuck Noll coached the Steelers from 1969-1991 and racked up numerous accolades during his time in the steel city. Noll’s Steelers of the 1970′s were a dynasty, winning four Super Bowls. Noll is the only head coach to have ever won four Super Bowls. During a segment on Mike and Mike, Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg discussed the Mount Rushmore of NFL coaches. Shockingly, not once was Noll’s name mention for a spot on their coach’s Mount Rushmore. Blasphemy, I say! The most Super Bowls among any head coach and you’re not even going to mention him!? Instead the Mikes decided Bill Belechek would be a good fit. An impressive coach no doubt but doesn’t have the most Super Bowl wins and I don’t believe Noll was ever fined $500,000 for spying on other teams. He may not be on the Mike’s coach’s Mount Rushmore but he’s certainly on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Mount Rushmore. Head Number Three: Terry Bradshaw The gunslinger, the pretty boy, the quarterback. Usually the captain of the team and definitely the face of the offense, Terry Bradshaw was the perfect compliment for the Steelers already deadly rushing attack of Franco Harris. Bradshaw helped the 70′s Steelers win four Super Bowls in a six year span. Bradshaw played for the Steelers from 1970 to 1983. He was first ballot for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989. When looking at the best Steelers’ quarterbacks, it’s usually measured from Bradshaw to present quarterback Ben Roethlisberger who like Bradshaw will take his place in the Hall of Fame someday. Bradshaw’s four Super Bowls and impressive play in  he 70′s definitly earns him spot on the Steelers’ Mount Rushmore. Head Number Four: “Mean” Joe Greene When you think of the Pittsburgh Steelers, well at least back in the day, you though of “D-FENSE!” You think of the almighty Steel Curtain that paved the way for so many titles and dominant seasons. The famous Steel Curtain has so many legendary players on it but one that stands out the most is “Mean Joe” Greene. Greene was one of the most dominant defensive players the league has ever seen, so nasty and well, mean, he won two NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards along with NFL.com’s number 13 best player of all-time. He also flashes the four rings from the 70′s and with Greene’s dominant play the Steel Curtain was a major force to be reckoned with. Greene is also a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. There you have it, the Pittsburgh Steelers Mount Rushmore, through my eyes of course. Let me know who you got on your mountain, Steeler Nation. Honorable Mentions: Franco Harris, Jack Lambert, Jack Ham, Lynn Swann, L.C. Greenwood, Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward, Ben Roethlisberger and Troy Polamalu.
