I’m still trying to figure out what happened with Trevor Pryce.

The Ravens sack leader from a year ago was cut from the team Wednesday in a surprise move. It wasn’t until a few hours later in the day that we learned that it was a roster move to allow Ken Hamlin a chance to be re-signed and that the Ravens fully expected to have Pryce back in the fold for Week Five.

Then this morning, we see this headline:

Pryce to sign with Jets.

Had Pryce simply been playing the Ravens and was ready to double dip the checkbook and re-join his old Defensive Coordinator Rex Ryan? It appears that way.

Take a look at CSN Baltimore’s Brent Harris’ latest blog and see what you think.

It looks like the plan that was apparently concocted by Ozzie Newsome and John Harbaugh had backfired and Pryce took the money and ran.

Now, there were some people today that just saw Pryce leaving as an opportunity to clear the way for second round picks Paul Kruger and Terrence Cody to get some playing time. And that’s true. These guys need to get on the field and show why the Ravens selected both so highly in their respective drafts. I’m all for that. Baltimore needs to get younger up front.

But I’m still bothered by how this played out. Price was known as a clubhouse favorite and the “voice of reason” by some in the locker room. He took a drastic pay cut to re-sign with the team and it seems now that this unusual move was the last straw for him.

Sure, Pryce’s skills have eroded but he is still valuable as a pass rusher on a team that lacks a consistent one. Do they really need Ken Hamlin to sit on the bench? Cary Williams just re-joined the team from suspension so I’m trying to figure where Hamlin fits in.

The situation seems strange and while neither the Ravens nor the Jets have confirmed or denied anything as of yet this could get really interesting.
