The Rooney Way – It’s Not Always About You

The lesson for Santonio Holmes and Ben Roethlisberger is more than just being traded to make your problems go away or having a District Attorney in a town no one heard of before say there will be no charges filed against you.  The lesson goes much deeper.  What Tone and Ben failed to realize this off-season, and in off-season’s before, is that the sport is much bigger than they are.  It’s not about you.  Those six Lombardi’s are not about you.  Not even the two you earned while playing on the team are about you.  This game is not about YOU. No one will dispute that these two fabulous athletes allowed the Steelers to the win in the final seconds of Super Bowl XLIII when Ben threw a perfect pass where only Tone could catch it.  Yet, the victory isn’t theirs alone.  That victory, and every victory before and after, is dedicated to the values of the Rooney family, the hard-working spirit of a team and the dreams of a (Steeler) Nation.
