1. Vernon Davis: That’s right, Davis ranks at the top of my list. You have to figure that he doesn’t have a Tom Brady or Wes Welker giving him some help like Gronk. Davis always see’s a double-team because the opposing defenses don’t fear the 49ers wide receiver corps.

2. Rob Gronkowski: After the season Gronk had, I wanted to make him No. 1. I just couldn’t because he gets so much help from Brady and Welker drawing the team’s attention that he sees one on one match ups every Sunday.  Remember this isn’t fantasy value this is who is the overall better tight end, that’s it. I do like the fact that Gronk can throw a great block, but still he lands at No. 2.

3. Jermichael Finley: Finley has his share of dropped passes, but with the WR’s getting so much attention, he will always have a mismatch. I did knock him for the many catchable balls that he didn’t reel in. Just one more TE who benefits from his QB, WR situation but you simply can’t overlook his production. Finley is a big strong TE and if you let him get going you might not bring him down.

4. Jimmy Graham: He is a great pass catching TE, but benefits from playing in a pass heavy offense and being in a dome. Brees scares opposing defensive units with his WR corps that Graham often see’s the mismatch and makes them pay. Still, you can’t overlook 1300+ yards in a season. I knocked Graham down a peg for having issues blocking on pass coverage but his scary numbers made up for it.

5. Jason Witten: Has been the cornerstone in Dallas for a long time. Witten has become one of Tony Romo’s best friends while on the field.

Honorable mentions

Aaron Hernandez: Hernandez has the ability not only to be a pass catcher, but he was an effective RB in the playoffs. Hernandez can put a hurting on any team, and the Pats have a great offensive unit going for them in 2012. I can see them right back in the Super Bowl, they just have too many weapons.

Antonio Gates: The top target for Rivers has always been Gates; Jackson got much credit for the amount of yards he put up in a season. The reason for this Jackson was taking all the deep passes but rarely every had as any receptions as other Pro Bowl wide receivers.  The Chargers won’t miss a beat; Gates is back and they replaced their deep threat in free agency.
