NFL Trade Rumors:
Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe writes that “it would be a surprise” to see the Patriots and CB Aqib Talib reach an agreement on a long-term contract before the start of free agency, despite freeing up some extra cap space yesterday with the extension handed out to Tom Brady.
Bedard adds that New England could end up using the transition tag on Talib instead.
This would be an interesting move by the Patriots, as it would cost them $8.9 million instead of the $10.6 million franchise tag. The Patriots would have the right of first refusal, but wouldn’t receive any compensation if Talib were to sign with another team.
It’s hard to say if this would be enough to persuade other team from trying to sign Talib to a long-term extension. We have Talib listed as the No. 22 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

According to the Boston Herald, the New England Patriots and wide receiver Wes Welker are discussing a possible contract extension.
These discussions were held independent of Tom Brady‘s contract extension. However, Brady’s new deal has freed up $15 million in cap room over the next two seasons, which gives Welker and the Pats a little more room to work with.

Tom Brady’s contract extension was all about keeping the team first and foremost
While I was stumbling around campus in a sick daze that prevented me from processing thoughts in my head, I ran into a friend of mine by the name of Greg Walsh. Our meeting was fleeting as he was headed in the opposite direction that I was. He had a chance to say one thing to me.
“He’s for the...

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, there’s still a chance teh New England Patriots could sign wide receiver Wes Welker to a contract extension and keep him from hitting the free agent market.
Easily the most productive NFL receiver over the past several years, he’s a first-down machine. He’s also, however, a slot receiver, and he’s a little older, making it tougher...

Tom Brady is the man. HOF QB. Dates Super Model. Is a model for Uggs…oh wait. The real reason he is the man is the contract extension he signed today. He took about half of what the market demands just to free up cap space and give his team a better shot at free agents. You might not like him or the Patriots, but you have to respect the move.
