Denver-broncos-rookie

The Tim Tebow show has arrived for Patriots fans. Cam Newton is having a great rookie season, much better than Tebow’s sophomore campaign. However, the difference is Denver has a very good defense compared to Carolina’s sorry bunch. The Broncos have two great edge rushers in Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil.

Though he’s getting up there in age, Champ Bailey still shuts down half the field. DJ Williams is a downright terror, just picture a healthy Jonathan Vilma. Brian Dawkins is a little long in the tooth but still plays at a high level and provides the type of veteran leadership that Denver needs that his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles lack. Young players like Robert Ayers and Andre Goodman are starters who add to the talent pool.

The Broncos defense is fast, especially on the edges and this allows them to drop seven into coverage while still applying stifling pressure on the quarterback. This will be the Patriots big issue as teams that have a shut down corner will put him on Wes Welker and that leaves a double team on Rob Gronkowski. If that is effective, the Patriots offense will struggle and Tebow time could be in effect.

The Broncos defense has the personnel and ability to switch in and out of the 4-3 to the 3-4 seamlessly, and this poses a problem for Tom Brady. Brady likes to take as much time to get a defense to declare, and if the Broncos can switch at the last minute, the blocking schemes will get crossed. Now, that’s bad new when you have two great edge rushers that get turned loose at any time. Unlike most edge rushers, that flexibility will get someone loose and Brady will have to get rid of the ball quick.

A guy to look out for is Williams, a big fast outside linebacker who adds to the pressure from the edge. With Miller and Dumervil on the outside, he’ll blitz up the middle most of the time. William is also an adept coverage LB, so he’ll be banging on Gronkowski every chance he gets.

While Tebow may get the headlines, the defense makes the fine print readable.

Tebow gets the brilliant SNL treatment

Denver Broncos Halftime Show Featured a Monkey Riding a Dog. No, Seriously

There was none of the usual late game heroics from Tim Tebow in Denver today as the New England Patriots clinched yet another AFC East title by downing the Broncos 41-23. No magic from Tebow today sadly, but there was a halftime show at Sports Authority Field at Mile High that priduced enough magic to make it worthy of its very own post. Does a monkey riding on a dog sound intriguing...

Ron Jaworski Believes Tebow Should Start Next Season

As Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow continues to take the NFL by storm this season,  he’s slowly changed the minds of many of his naysayers. ESPN NFL analyst Ron Jaworski was a guest on Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN Radio on Friday. Jaworski was asked by co-host Mike Golic if Tebow should [...]

Bonus video of the day: The Herald’s Patriots reporters break down a Tebow-filled week

It has been a hectic, Tim Tebow-filled week in Patriots land. Sure, sure, we discussed other things, but no one dominated the discussion like the Broncos quarterback. Before we ship out to Denver to get ready for Sunday’s matchup, colleague Karen Guregian and I broke down the week that was in our weekly video. Here it is, as edited by Bob Greim:

Around The League – Week 14

By Jeremy Gottlieb, Patriots Daily Staff It’s finally here. The Patriots trip to Denver comes in just two days and that means it’s time for them to get their taste of TEBOWMANIA! The Broncos QB is Tim Tebow, in case you haven’t heard of him, and at last look, he’s 7-1 as a starter, has his team in first place in its division and primed for the post-season and is able to leap...

Week 15 matchup: Tennessee Titans (7-6) at Indianapolis Colts (0-13)

The visitors tend to win ugly, but the home team has been downright ugly all year. However unpleasant in appearance at times, the Titans were most impressive in Week 2 with a 26-13 home victory over Baltimore. The rest of the time, well, they got blown out by Pittsburgh and Houston, almost beat New Orleans last Sunday (nice no calls on the final play when Saints defenders were knocking...
