Dolphins fans fed up with Chad Henne have taken to chanting “We want Orton!” at practices whenever Henne makes a gaffe. Tony Sparano came to his quarterback’s defense Tuesday, saying, “it makes me sick.”
Now Chad Henne is responding.
“I’m human. Deep down inside it does hurt.”
The best to stop mocking is usually to ignore it and rise to the occasion — not throwing passes at your wide receivers’ feet in practice, for instance. But when you’re getting negative chants, it doesn’t pay to admit the chants hurt your feelings. It’s a sign of weakness. How can you lead a team if boos affect your confidence?
I get that Henne is upset. But the quarterback needs to be the rock, a leader outwardly unphased by the climate surrounding him.
Time for Henne to step up and be that leader.
