On this, the rarest of all days, we celebrate the 2nd Anniversary of Chris Redman's re-signing with the Atlanta Falcons...4 years ago. While erstwhile back-up Redman is lucky enough to not have to wait 4 years to celebrate a birthday, he did re-up with the team that pulled him off the scrap heap on Leap Day.
Redman remains one of the few feel good stories from the forgettable Petrino era. Infamously part of "The Brady 6" - the sextet of QBs taken before Tom Brady in the 2000 NFL Draft - the Louisville product had spent 3 seasons out of the NFL, and was selling insurance when the call came from the Falcons before the 2007 season.
Thankfully, for Chris, being out of the league for 3 seasons was less of a hinderance than possessing the DNA of Joey Harrington or Byron Leftwich. Despite only starting 7 games, he led the team in touchdown passes, and QB rating. The new administration, seeing the value in a smart, mature, happy-to-be-a-backup, moved to keep him on board. Redman formed a quick friendship with rookie/Franchise savior Matt Ryan the next season, and has been his understudy ever since. He even tossed a very memorable game-winning touchdown pass in 2009 that helped contribute to the franchise finally getting over the "consecutive winning seasons" hump.

The AJC has just reported that a Kroy Biermann signing is "imminent," starting off what should be a flurry of free agent signings.
Seems like the Falcons are about to "kick off" free agent signings. (I'll be here all night. Tip your waitresses)
The final sticking point is that Biermann wants a three-year contract. The team would like to lock him...

The Falcons sent out their 2011 season in review on Tuesday, which included the unofficial depth chart.
Here are some of the nuggets from the review and I take a little stab at how the offseason depth chart looks with 17 prospective unrestricted free agents.
–Under head coach Mike Smith, the Falcons have posted 10-or-more wins and earned playoff berths in three of the last...
When Tony Gonzalez threw his name into the 1997 NFL draft, football experts were already salivating about how good he could be. At 6’5”and weighing around 250 pounds, the former small forward for the CaliforniaGolden Bears had the kind of athleticism that had never been seen before at thetight end position. And Gonzalez didn’t disappoint either. Gonzalez has caughtat least 70...
A month and a half ago we discussed the situation with Donald Driver potentially not being able to finish his career in Green Bay. In that article we made a slight reference to the perceived notion that the Steelers were doing it right by allowing Hines Ward to stay on the team.
Well, we perceived wrong and now that it’s official, we look at Ward’s departure from Steel City...
Another solid defensive player is going to be taken off the free agent market before he even gets there. D.
