Found October 28, 2013 on This Given Sunday:
There were only 11 games in the NFL Sunday, and most of them were what I like to call "blah." It wasn't the strongest weekend of football, but there was still enough stupidity to satisfy those who enjoy criticizing such things. The stupidest penalty By keeping the ball on the ground on a third-and-14 with just over one minute to play, the Dallas Cowboys knew they weren't likely going to convert to move the chains. The only goal, really, was to keep the clock running. The Detroit Lions were out of timeouts, so a run meant the clock would run under the 30-second mark. Combine that with a field goal attempt and the ensuing kickoff (or even a punt) and you'd be leaving Detroit with about 20 seconds to go the distance of the field.  In other words, the game was pretty much over so long as they kept the clock rolling. In other words, no penalties.  And then Tyron Smith did this: The obvious holding penalty was declined, but it stopped the clock. With a...

Chip Kelly Eschews Talk of Finding Eagles Quarterback of The Future

Chip Kelly bluntly discussed his philosophy on finding the Eagles quarterback of the future Wednesday. Chip Kelly was as animated Wednesday as he's been since taking the Philadelphia Eagles head coaching job when talking about the need to find a quarterback of the future.  Moments after naming Nick Foles the starting quarterback against the Oakland Raiders Sunday Kelly was asked...

Philadelphia Eagles: Kelly deserves blame

After a 7-15 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles now have an 0-4 record at home.  Just as things were beginning to look up, the Eagles have rapidly fallen to 3-5 on the season, following their second straight loss. Luckily for them, the NFC East continues to struggle. The Eagles remain one game back of the first place Dallas Cowboys. The Giants never found...

A recent USA Today report titled “Grading the NFL’s Rookie Coaches” says Chip Kelly has made things worse in Philadelphia for the Eagles. Really?

In a report published on USA Today, the writer graded the NFL’s rookie head coaches. Much to my surprise, he said Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has made things worse in Philadelphia for his Eagles team. I can’t understand how that’s the case. The Eagles finished the 2012 season with only 4 wins. Sure Kelly has offensive problems, but the Eagles already have 3 wins and we are...

Eagles Issues Run Much Deeper Than Quarterback

The Chip Kelly era in Philadelphia opened with much promise on opening night against the Redskins, but the first-year coach has made many troubling decisions since. Photo: Philadelphiaeagles.com Don't look now, but the Philadelphia Eagles are quickly morphing into a franchise in crisis mode.  Now officially crossing the midway point of Chip Kelly's first season as head coach...

Matt Barkley Disputes Chip Kelly's Goal Line Claim

In the fallout of one of the most important and perplexing moment from Sunday's 15-7 Eagles loss to the Giants, head coach Chip Kelly and quarterback Matt barkley have vastly differing views. On an afternoon filled with perplexing decisions and miscalculations by first-year Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly, one play stood out above the rest.  With Michael Vick already...

Way too early to quit on Chip Kelly in Philly...

Too early to quit at 3-5 with two offensive flop weeks in a row? --- Yes, I believe so... Give the Chippah his due. He's essentially employed as ownership's subcontractor manager on the job site. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment so far in 2013 is successfully delegating authority within the ranks of his defensive and special teams coordinators. Kelly seems to know...

Chip Kelly: LeSean McCoy Pressing Right Now

LeSean McCoy and the Eagles run game have been grounded since a fast start in the first four games of the season. Photo Courtesy: Bleacher Report LeSean McCoy's fast start to the season not only raised expectations that the franchise running back would spend this season marching towards the single season rushing record, but for Chip Kelly's supposed revolutionary offense...

Chip Kelly 's Game Mistakes

Yes, Yes You Do When I left Tampa's Raymond James Stadium 15 days ago, I had seen the Eagles slowly but surely pull away from a home team that was coming off a bye. QB Nick Foles had created a QB controversy, RB LeSean McCoy had done damage to a respected run defense, and WR DeSean Jackson had a 2-TD game against a CB with one of the best reputations in the NFL. The defense...

Eagles Face Another Week of Quarterback Uncertainty

With Michael Vick and Nick Foles' availability uncertain, Chip Kelly face another week of not knowing going into the week who will start Sunday's game. Photo Courtesy: SI.com Those observers of the Philadelphia Eagles hoping to hear from head coach Chip Kelly who will start at quarterback Sunday against the Oakland Raiders are once again out of luck.  As it stands, Matt...

Would you take Chip back? How close is Mark Helfrich to earning that lifetime contract?

Down to their third team quarterback, banged up and undermanned on both sides of the ball, Chip Kelly's Philadelphia Eagles fell to 3-5 after a 15-7 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday. The Eagle offense didn't score a touchdown, the Birds' lone score coming on a fumble return by linebacker Najee Goode late in the fourth quarter. Bird droppings: With two Eagle quarterbacks...

Chip Kelly: ‘I Would Think Vick Won’t Be Ready To Go’ vs Raiders

Michael Vick is unlikely to play this week against the Oakland Raiders, and may not play again this season. Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said on his regular Monday morning appearance on WIP’s Morning Show that “Vick is unlikely to play Sunday, and that Matt Barkley probably would get the start.” “Matt is healthy, so that’s a positive,” Kelly said. “I would think Mike...

Nick Foles Will Start Week 9 For Eagles

Eagles coach Chip Kelly says that Nick Foles will start at quarterback Sunday against the Raiders.Fantasy Spin:Foles, who missed last week's game because of a concussion, is filling in for the injured Mike Vick (hamstring). He could be a nice bye week fill-in for owners of Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford and Colin Kaepernick.

Don't Expect Eagles To Be Active At Trade Deadline

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman in all likelihood will not be a big player at the NFL trade deadline later this afternoon. Photo Courtesy: FoxNews.com At 4pm today all wheeling and dealing in terms of NFL teams making a trade will cease. Unlike the NBA, NHL and MLB, the NFL trade deadline comes and goes with a whimper rather than a boom as is the case in the other professional...

Eagles quarterback Nick Foles to start against the Raiders

Nick Foles has been named the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. Chip Kelly announced in his weekly press conference that Foles will be the starting quarterback and he will take first-team reps this week. “I was really happy with how Nick practiced on (Tuesday),” Kelly said. “Nick did a really good job. Nick is going to be our starting quarterback this week,...
