Packers general manager Ted Thompson is known for playing things close to the vest in the buildup to the NFL Draft -- and really in regard to pretty much every subject -- so his 20-minute meeting with reporters Thursday in Green Bay produced the expected amount of obtuse answers and little if any news. After talking for nearly the entire 20 minutes in very general terms about draft strategy, Thompson was asked -- and quickly deflected -- a few questions on the minds of Packers fans. In regard to the team having interest in re-signing running back Cedric Benson, a free agent whose 2012 season ended with a Week 5 foot injury: "I wouldn't comment on that. He's an unrestricted free agent, and he has an injury thing he has to get past, but we'll see." Any update on recently reinstated defensive lineman Johnny Jolly, who was reportedly close to returning to the team earlier this week for offseason workouts? "No, nothing to report there." What about giving thought to bringing back future Hall of Famer Charles Woodson, released by the Packers at season's end, if the team can't upgrade its safety situation in the draft? "Oh, I wouldn't care to speculate about that." And there you have it, Packers fans. One thing is for certain: Whatever direction Thompson takes in building his 2013 roster will come with very little foreshadowing -- as usual.
