Steel City Blitz:
Oregon State Beavers
As Bob Labriola described in his comments after today’s first mini-camp session came to a end, these three days are often analogous to the last three days of school. For the players, many of whom have been through rookie camp and then OTA’s, this is the end before the real fun begins on July 27th. I think it’s a fair assessment by Labriola because many of the players are anxious to return home and even the coaches are ready for a bit of a break before things get serious.
As you know, I don’t do a whole lot of ‘Steelers’ News’ as I’m much more into analysis and opinion, but these are my thoughts from the first day of mini-camp…
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was in attendance today although he didn’t participate following his minor knee surgery last week. Video of Roethlisberger chatting with Head Coach Mike Tomlin struck me as Roethlisberger looks noticeably thinner than he did at any time last season. He commented afterward that the surgery went well and had this been the regular ...

While researching the career sack numbers of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, I wanted to try to determine a perfect recipe for him winning games as it relates to sacks taken and yards per carry produced by everyone except for him and what I found was pretty astonishing.
While it might be hard to believe, the Steelers are 40-4 (91%) in games that Roethlisberger...
The Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up their first mandatory mini camp practice on Tuesday and starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger met the media afterwards to talk about the minor surgical procedure he had performed last week on his right knee.

Roethlisberger told reporters today that he could play on Sunday if he could. “It feels great,” Roethlisberger said. “I saw Doc Bradley this morning. The Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up their final day of the 2013 mini camp on Thursday with meetings as the practice portion was canceled by head coach Mike Tomlin. Tomlin did, however, meet with the media before leaving for his football camp and gave his thoughts on what took place over the course of the last several weeks.
Here is the opening statement that he gave:
PITTSBURGH – Ben Roethlisberger could play Sunday, less than two weeks after minor knee surgery ...
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger says his right knee is great and he could practice next week if he needed to.
Roethlisberger underwent minor surgery last week to address some lingering discomfort in the knee. He expects to be 100 percent when training camp opens in late July.
When Roethlisberger does return, he'll be working with a new-look offense of sorts...

The Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up their second of their three-day mini-camp today on the South Side facility. Ben Roethlisberger did not participate in drills but did throw a few passes. Rookie Markus Wheaton was again absent as he is finishing classes at Oregon State. As you know, I don’t do a whole lot of ‘Steelers’ News’ as I’m much more into analysis and opinion, but...

There is no question that Ben Roethlisberger is critical to the success of the Pittsburgh Steelers offense, and that his absence from the lineup encumbers the unit’s potential. His unique skill set provides a variety of offensive possibilities that challenge defenses in ways that no other quarterback can.
Troy Polamalu used to be Roethlisberger’s equivalent...
Last Monday Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said during his press conference that we shouldn't read much into the running back rotation currently be used during the offseason practices and that putting the pads on in training camp is when it matters the most. At that time, I speculated Jonathan Dwyer was only being given the majority of the first-team reps because...
Season 3, Episode 111 of The Terrible Podcast is up and co-host David Todd and I recap the Pittsburgh Steelers final week of offseason practices after the 2013 mini camp came to a conclusion on Thursday. We discuss what Mike Tomlin had to say during his press conference and look at the injury situation heading into training camp.
Linebackers coach Keith Butler talked about the...
Day two of the Pittsburgh Steelers mandatory mini camp was a pretty uneventful one, but there were still a few things worthy of some attention just the same as the defensive coaches were allowed to talk to the media on Wednesday. Here is a recap for you.
Adams Football Family Reunion - Nothing has changed as far as injuries go as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (knee), tight end...
Rod Woodson and Carnell Lake have been reunited in the Steel City as it was announced on Tuesday that the Pittsburgh Steelers former 1987 first-round draft pick will be serving as an intern for the rest of the offseason practices as well as in training camp.
Woodson, who spent 17 seasons in the NFL, coached the Oakland Raiders defensive backs in 2011, but was let go after just one...
If you listen to any of the interviews following the Steelers recent official team activities or OTAs, one of the common themes was the new approach to conditioning. I think I speak for a lot of Steelers’ fans when I say that this will be very welcome especially if it leads to fewer injuries. The injury bug has been the size of a condor in recent seasons for this team and any alteration...
