The offseason is just getting underway, but before anything realistic happens, let’s take a look at three possible ridiculous offseason scenarios. Keep in mind that if these end up happening, they will probably be talked about for hours on end… 1. Baltimore Ravens re-sign Ed Reed, Joe Flacco, and Anquan Boldin… These three players were all essential to the Ravens Super Bowl run. At the same time, none of them are selfish like Terrell Owens. As a result, they all know that if they want to keep the team together and make a run at winning another Super Bowl next year, they will have to take either a pay cut or earn less money then they might get elsewhere. In the end, this is probably the most likely scenario out of the three. 2. A quarterback will be taken within the first five picks of the draft… Unlike last year, this year’s draft class has very few great QB prospects, and if the Chiefs don’t take one with the first overall pick, many NFL analysts think that a QB won’t be drafted until the second round. But come April, I wouldn’t be surprised if a team like Oakland (3rd pick) or Buffalo (8th pick but would trade up to a top five pick) takes a quarterback early on. Whether that QB is Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, Ryan Nassib, or someone else remains to be seen. But one things for sure, if one of them isn’t taken in the top five, there’s a good chance at least one will be taken in the middle to late first round. 3. Wes Welker doesn’t re-sign with New England… It’s not a secret that the chances of the Patriots trying hard to sign Ed Reed are very high (this doesn’t mean the chances of them landing him are high, just that it is likely they will at least try to sign him). As a result, I wouldn’t be surprise to see Welker sign elsewhere because he’s tired of waiting for New England to try to sign Reed. The former Ravens safety is a once in a lifetime type of safety and even though Welker is very good at what he does, he isn’t nearly as good at WR as Reed is at safety. Those are my bold predictions.
