This is it, this weekend is the final three days left that the Bears have to sign Matt Forte to a long-term extension, otherwise they have to wait and hope he reports to camp and starts the season and that they can work something out way down the road. Chris Mortensen tweeted yesterday to a fan's question, saying he thinks the Bears come together for a deal. Now he has way more insider knowledge than any of us so I hope he is right, but I doubt it.

To me, the whole thing is over. Both sides seem ridiculously entrenched in their positions and Forte seems so darn bitter about it. He has pretty much whined so often as to fall out of favor with many Bears fans. A year ago the majority of Bears fans were in the "Pay Da Man" camp, now I think most are to the "Shut Up and Play" area.

With so little time left I think it seems far-fetched to believe a deal is going to get done. Forte has gone on and on about wanting respect and to get his money and blah blah blah.

The fact is, a deal could get done. All it takes is for one or both sides to sit down and find a common ground, the Bears up the ante a couple million, Forte and his agent come down a couple million and badda-bing, badda-boom it's all over.

I still think the deal that would be perfect for Forte is the Marshawn Lynch deal. $31 million, $18 million guaranteed, or at least, in that ballpark. However, Forte thinks he's better than Lynch which is what's problematic.

I think Forte will show up and play for the Bears. I don't think he'll report to camp on time, but I think he will report when he feels he's "made his point" or whatever.

In the last month or so, Forte has said that the sides were at least talking and that there was something going on, but even then he didn't seem optimistic. Forte has seemed to go back and forth on the talks with the Bears about as much as Dwight Howard has on whether he wants to stay or go from Orlando.

All that negativity aside though, in the final three days here, things could get done. The NFL sometimes likes to work into the 25th hour. Last minute deals that save the day happen all the time.

So I could very well post this and in two hours the team announces a new deal. I doubt it, but it could happen.

What do you think? Will there be a new deal this weekend between the Bears and Forte?
