Free-agent running back Tim Hightower may be back in a Washington Redskins uniform next season, according to the Washington Posts sources.

The four-year veteran visited the New England Patriots on Saturday but the Redskins still have a chance to re-sign Hightower who turns 26 next month.

Hightower opened the season as Washington's starting running back, but tore his ACL during the game against the Carolina Panthers.  Hightower rushed for 88 yards on 17 carries before his injury in just two quarters.

Hightower started in only five games last season, rushing for 321 yards on 84 carries with one touchdown.  He also had 78 yards receiving with one touchdown.

Mike Shanahan has said he values Hightower's leadership skills and blocking ability and hopes to re-sign the back.

The Redskins drafted Roy helu and Evan Royster in last year's draft and have Tristan Davis on the roster.

Dawkins Retires, Was Great

Despite being a Washington Redskins fan, I am able to set aside my loyalties to give thanks and praise when it is deserved - even if it is to a member of a team that rivaled the Redskins for a decade. Former Philadelphia Eagle and most recently Denver Bronos safety, Brian Dawkins was a great player for 16 NFL seasons. After suffering a serious neck injury late last season, the...
