New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow has been making the rounds, speaking at numerous churches and Universities around the country. His latest speech was given to 10,000 evangelical Christian students at Liberty University. While Tebow speaking isn’t that huge of a story, what he actually said in his latest is interesting to say the least.
“In the end, football is just a silly game. Greatness comes from serving“, said Tebow.
Worth noting is the fact that the context Tebow was speaking in was simply highlighting the fact that there is more to life and God than just a game. Even if that game is the NFL.
But one does have to wonder. With his future with the Jets up in the air and questions about whether any other team would be interested in his services, will these comments rub teams the wrong way? We’ll have to wait and see.
BEST OF MAXIM
Welcome to the new New York Jets, where ok is good enough. Where accuracy is not that important. In the words of recently released linebacker Bart Scott, "Can't wait" for next season.
The Jets' new offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg touched on a few things in an interview on the Jets official website, and dropped this notable tidbit, brought to our attention...
The New York Jets have re-signed linebacker Josh Mauga, one of the team's four restricted free agents, to a one-year contract.
Agent Michael Hoffman confirmed the deal on his Twitter page Saturday. Mauga is a key backup and special teams performer who missed 11 games last season with a torn pectoral muscle.
The Jets decided not to offer Mauga a low tender offer of $1.32 million...
According to Kareem Copeland of NFL.com, the New York Jets have asked receiver Santonio Holmes to take a pay cut to help the team acquire some free agents. Good luck.
Holmes has been one of the more selfish players, arguing with quarterback Mark Sanchez in the huddle, trashing teammates in the locker room, so if he agrees it will come as a big surprise. Copeland writes:
Tim Tebow has been one athlete open about his Christianity and by doing so has received his share of backlash. His comments on Friday at Liberty University is sure to raise more talk.
“In the end, football is just a silly game. Greatness comes from serving,” Tebow reportedly told the crowd.
Tebow will continue his stay at the university this weekend to participate in the Wildfire...
According to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com, the Jets have asked wide receiver Santonio Holmes to take a pay cut.
The two sides are still talking, according to a source, with the Jets insisting that he reduce his $11 million base salary. The team needs the cap space as it heads into free agency.
It’s a bit complicated because Holmes is guaranteed $7.5 million whether he’s on...
According to Jeff McLane of Philly.com, a rumor has been circulating that the Eagles are getting ready to make an offer to the Jets for cornerback Darrelle Revis. There’s already a rumor brewing in certain NFL circles that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has been crunching the numbers and putting together an offer to bring the 27-year-old Revis to Philadelphia. Others around...
No one knows who is really interested in Darrelle Revis. So, many different factors to consider, that I am sure teams are going back and forth, if it is worth the risk.
If this was a 100% healthy Darrelle Revis it would be a no-brianer, but it isn’t, so teams are hesitant to give up draft picks and big money to him.
Broncos according to reports though, are inquiring.
Darrelle Revis could be changing shades of green next season.
Rumors abound that the New York Jets are frantically shopping their star cornerback. One team that’s rumored to be interested is the Philadelphia Eagles, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Jeff McLane reports Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is putting an offer together to bring Revis to Philadelphia.
To trade him or not to trade him, that is the multi-million dollar question. The Green and White Report podcast team takes a look at a few potential landing spots for the Jets' star cornerback and whether Darrelle Revis will ultimately leave the Big Apple this offseason.
I’m guessing this is just the first move that will lead to Tim Tebow’s exodus from New York.
#RL The New York Jets have announced this afternoon they have signed 9-year veteran QB David Garrard.
