The Tim Tebow debate is a perfect illustration of what’s wrong with America. Every comment, article, debate, and sports show nowadays is talking about Tebow as if he is the next hot button social issue that will be headlining the 2012 presidential elections. Even the Michael Vick dog-fighting situation didn’t spark off as heated of a debate as what’s going on in Denver. Usually debates about high-profile sports figures revolve around either some heinous act they have committed or that sports figure’s placement among the all-time greats of their sport/position. Debates about whether a young quarterback can lead an NFL team usually fizzle out pretty fast but somehow this Tebow thing has been back and forth in the press for over a year now and gets even more heated the more he plays. A quarterback can play himself in or out of a starting role fairly quickly by showing the coaches he has a good grasp of the offense, displaying poise under pressure, showing off his leadership skills, or just displaying undeniable talent that leads them to believe that they have someone they can develop and build around.
