According to Gainesville, Florida police records, New England Patriots quarterback and Aaron Hernandez's former Florida Gators teammate Tim Tebow tried to break up a violent bar brawl in 2007. Hernandez allegedly punched a bouncer in the head at the Swamp Bar in April of 2007, when Hernandez was a freshman at the University of Florida. An officer arrived at the scene at 1AM and could not find Hernandez, but Tebow was interviewed about the altercation. The fight started after Hernandez, who was 17 at the time, was given two "alcoholic drinks", which he drank, and refused to pay the tab. Swamp Bar bouncer Michael Taphorn then got into Hernandez's face and began screaming at him. When Taphorn turned to walk away, Hernandez slugged him in the side of the head, bursting his eardrum. The officer wrote that Tebow did indeed witness the assault and tried to intervene. He pleaded with Hernandez to leave peacefully and tried to set up arrangements to resolve the unpaid bar tab.
