Mike Munchak has hired veteran coach Tom Moore to help the Tennessee Titans after firing offensive coordinator Chris Palmer and giving the job to Dowell Loggains.
Munchak says Thursday that the 32-year-old Loggains still will call the plays starting Sunday when the Titans (4-7) host Houston (10-1). But Loggains had been the quarterbacks coach, and Munchak says they needed more help in the building.
Moore worked with the Jets last season after his stint coaching with the Indianapolis Colts and working with Peyton Manning ended. Munchak didn't get permission to talk to Moore and Bill Callahan about being his coordinator before hiring Palmer in February 2011. Munchak says Moore, 74, will be a resource for Loggains and the Titans in general with his 38 years of experience in the NFL.

Offensive Coordinator Chris Palmer wasn’t fired during the bye week instead the Tennessee Titans opted to wait for another embarrassing loss. Which leads me to believe that not only are the Titans stubborn but coach Mike Munchak may have leaned too much on experience of his coordinators. The Titans have needed to make a move for some time now.Not only do we not know the identity...
(Updates. With AP Photos.) By TERESA M. WALKER AP Sports Writer Mike Munchak has made his biggest move yet as head coach of the Tennessee Titans.
He has put Tennessee's offense - and possibly his future - in the hands of 32-year-old quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains.
Munchak fired offensive coordinator Chris Palmer on Monday night and gave the job to an assistant who will...
The firing of Titans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer came at an odd time, and it's indicative of underlying problems within the organization. The Titans offensive consistently moved the ball against the Jaguars' defense, but their drives generally stalled out, leading to five field goal attempts on the day. From the outside looking in, the move to fire the offensive...
For years, Tom Moore and Peyton Manning picked apart the Tennessee Titans. Now, Manning is in Denver, and Moore is retired. He will remain retired, but according to Terry McCormick of the National Football Post, Moore has been brought in as an offensive consultant for the Titans, days after firing offensive coordinator Chris Palmer.
Former Colts OC Tom Moore has been brought in by...
Tennessee middle linebacker Colin McCarthy will not play Sunday against the Houston Texans due to a concussion.
McCarthy has not practiced since suffering a concussion in last week's loss at Jacksonville. He has missed four games previously this season with a high right ankle sprain hurt in the season opener against New England. Tim Shaw will replace McCarthy in the base defense...
One of the things I've looked at here over the past couple years from time to time is what effect starting field position has had on how effective the Titans have been at scoring or conceding points. I think the first time I did it was when I tried to compare how the offense fared in 2009 under Kerry Collins to how it fared under Vince Young, and I've kept it up since. I...
