Titans' Brian Callahan addresses how Will Levis is handling addition of Cam Ward

Most outsiders expect that the Tennessee Titans will eventually name rookie Cam Ward their starting quarterback, but Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi has made it known on multiple occasions that he'd like the No. 1 pick of the 2025 NFL Draft to win the job while competing with 2023 second-round selection Will Levis.

While speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Titans head coach Brian Callahan addressed how Levis is handling the addition of Ward to the club's quarterback room during springtime workouts. 

"I’ve been pleased with their demeanor and their approach," Callahan said about the two quarterbacks, as shared by Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "Will’s done a really nice job of getting better at things he needed to get better at. I’ve felt really pretty good about his offseason work and how he’s come back. They’ve both done a really nice job getting up to speed where they needed to. Both have had different things that they’re trying to get accomplished. But I’m happy with where that’s at." 

It was learned in January that Levis planned on spending a portion of the offseason working with former NFL signal-caller and current quarterback trainer/coach Jordan Palmer as the 25-year-old looked to improve aspects of his game. That said, Callahan benched Levis this past December due to poor play, and neither the coach nor Borgonzi was with the organization when the Titans drafted Levis roughly two years ago. 

Per ESPN stats, Levis finished the 2024 regular season ranked last in the league with a 27.8 adjusted QBR. He went 2-10 as a starter, and he tallied 13 touchdown passes with 12 interceptions over his 12 games. 

"We’re not competing right now," Callahan said about Ward and Levis splitting reps at this stage of the offseason program. "It’ll change probably a little bit when we get to the actual [organized team activities on May 27] and we’ve got 7-on-7 and team work and stuff like that. But right now, they’re really not going against anybody, so we just roll through it. They’re probably roughly about even all the way through, which is pretty standard for this time of year."

Levis likely has already lost the Tennessee QB1 job but could attract attention from other clubs by having a solid summer and impressing during August preseason games. Even if Callahan surprisingly chooses to sit Ward for Week 1, it's a matter of when and not if the former Miami star will be handed the keys to the Titans' offense.
