While linebacker Akeem Ayers will see plenty of time at strong-side linebacker, the Titans also plan on lining him up on the line of scrimmage as a pass rusher with great regularity. A year ago, Ayers had two quarterback sacks and seven quarterback pressures. During the offseason, he’s worked with new pass-rush specialist Keith Millard on his technique, and Ayers already feels better equipped to take on offensive linemen and running backs trying to block him. Defensive coordinator Jerry Gray said Ayers also will need the right mind-set. “We need Ayers to have a dominant attitude that, ‘You know what? A tackle isn’t going to block me. A running back isn’t going to block me,’ ” he said of Ayers. “This is Akeem’s second year. We expect him to go out and make plays.” If Ayers is able to develop quickly as a pass rusher, it might also allow rookie linebacker Zach Brown to get on the field more in 2012. “I just think it gives us more options,” coach Mike Munchak said of Ayers. “Does that mean he’s going to be a true defensive end? No. It just means he’s going to have more of an opportunity to work there with his speed.”

Top 5 storylines of Titans training camp

Coming off a 9-7 mark in head coach Mike Munchaks inaugural season, the Tennessee Titans have every reason to expect improvement in 2012 except for one key factor. The Titans face a murderous schedule, especially out of the gate when they face three teams that qualified for the playoffs in 2011 in their first four games and the other is on the road against one of the NFLs better...

Kenny Britt arrested yet again; this time for DUI at an Army post

Unfortunate yet unsurprising news for the Titans today, as troubled wide receiver Kenny Britt found himself in handcuffs yet again after being charged with DUI at a military installation early Friday morning. Britt reportedly was taking a female soldier back to Fort Campbell, an Army post on the border of Kentucky and Tennessee, when his vehicle was stopped at a gate outside of the...

Titans’ Kenny Britt has surgery on other knee, gets arrested

Titans’ receiver Kenny Britt did not have a good week. First, he underwent knee surgery on his left knee, after previously having 2 knee surgeries on his right knee in a 10 month period. The knee surgery was minor as shouldn’t cause him to miss any time, though another procedure like that is hardly good news. What could cause him to miss time is the fact that he was also arrested...

More on Kendall Wright's potential role in the offense

I put off a discussion of Kendall Wright when I wrote about Greg Cosell's comments on the Titans' draft picks, but now it's time to talk about those comments with a focus on what Wright might mean to the Titans' offense.First, Kenny Britt's arrest inconveniently complicates matters. A passing offense with Britt, Wright, and Nate Washington looks and functions...

Britt's stock continues to fall

The word "if" is a concept utilized often in sports dissertation. If Bob Sanders could stay healthy, he'd be one of the best safeties in NFL history. If Tony Romo could improve his pocket administration, the Cowboys would be a perennial Super Bowl contender. If Kenny Britt could just stay out of trouble... Unfortunately, most "if" abstractions are rarely...

If you're curious about how the Tennessee Titans are viewed in fantasy football, I surveyed some of the top fantasy sites to see how the experts ranked the Titans at their respective positions, how they ranked them overall, and what the average draft positions were. Following are the results of the survey, after the jump. RB Chris JohnsonExpert ranking: standard leagues ...

Akeem Ayers to line up as a pass rusher regularly for Titans

According to the Nashville Tennessean, Titans linebacker Akeem Ayers will line up as a pass rusher regularly this season. The 2011 2nd round pick has spent the offseason working out with pass rush technique specialist Keith Millard. At 6-3 254, with good athleticism, he has all the tools to be a pass rusher and was noted for his above average blitzing ability coming out of UCLA last...

More on Kamerion Wimbley

After last week's mostly offense-focused posting, it's time to look at the other side of the ball. Later this week, I'll write a couple posts taking a more in-depth look at Akeem Ayers, but first I wanted to write about new defensive end Kamerion Wimbley. I wrote a little about his ability when he signed with the Titans, but it's worth taking a more in-depth look...

Tennessee Titans sign S Aaron Francisco

The Tennessee Titans announced today they agreed to terms with safety Aaron Francisco.Francisco spent 2011 out of the NFL after getting cut by the Lions at the end of training camp. He began his career with the Arizona Cardinals before spending two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. His most extensive action on regular defense came in 2010, when he started 12 games at strong safety...

Titans Still Haven't Finalized A Deal With WR Kendall Wright

The Tennessee Titans and first-round pick Kendall Wright still have not come to an agreement on the receiver's rookie contract because of a couple of sticking points. The first deals with off-set language the Titans would like included in the deal, according to TitanInsider.com. The second barrier is that the sides remain apart on guaranteed money in the fourth year of the contract...

Titans FS Anthony Smith Retires After Six Seasons

Tennessee Titans safety Anthony Smith has announced his retirement, Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Saturday. Smith was viewed as a potential long-term answer at free safety when the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in third round of the 2006 draft out of Syracuse. Then came that pesky, failed -- and very public -- guarantee in 2007, when Smith vowed victory...

Titans WR Kenny Britt Could Face NFL Discipline In Alcohol-Related Arrest

Kenny Britt's latest arrest could land him an NFL suspension, derailing the Tennessee Titans wide receiver's return from knee surgery. He is on the NFL's radar for his personal problems and met last August with commissioner Roger Goodell. At that time Goodell opted against suspending Britt over law violations that occurred during the NFL lockout. This time Britt might...
