If the Titans want to renegotiate quarterback Matt Hasselbeck’s contract for the coming season, he’s open to the possibility. Hasselbeck, entering the third and final year of his deal with the Titans, is scheduled to make $5.5 million in base salary in 2013. Including bonus money, he would count $7.5 million against the salary cap. “I would definitely be up for that, for sure,” Hasselbeck said Wednesday about the possibility of renegotiating his deal. “I’m not in those conversations, but I’m aware of them. That topic came up maybe in September, October, November (of 2012), somewhere in there. “I would be excited about the opportunity because it would be basically having the opportunity to stay. But again, there’s so much that goes into those things. But from my perspective, yeah, absolutely.” Hasselbeck said contract talk “comes up pretty much every year for every player,” but sounded as if the possibility of taking a pay cut wasn’t his biggest concern. “If I could hang my hat on one thing, I would just want to be on a good team that was not necessarily trying to rebuild, but trying to play the best players and put the best players on the field,” Hasselbeck said. “When I came here, some of the things that were really exciting to me about the Titans and this opportunity were coach (Mike) Munchak’s main statement: ‘Be a pro. Know your job and do it.’ Source: The Tennessean
