Titans second-round pick DT T'Vondre Sweat is already out to prove doubters wrong

Drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat is hitting the ground running...literally.

Sweat, who heard his name called with the No. 38 overall pick in the draft, immediately went to work after landing with the Titans. He, along with his Texas teammates WR Xavier Worthy, RB Jonathan Brooks and WR Jordan Whittington, set out to prove why he was drafted in a post-draft group workout on Monday.

When asked why he was out working just two days before, Sweat gave the perfect response: "I'm out here working because I gotta prove the people wrong. Everybody is stereotyping me out here. I'm gonna continue to do my work in silence."

Sweat does not arrive in Tennessee without his fair share of concerns. Prior to the draft, Sweat was arrested in Texas on a DWI charge, which likely contributed to the Outland Trophy winner's slip into the second round.

His weight has also been a point of contention in the pre-draft process. The Athletic's Dane Brugler reported that Sweat's playing weight in the College Football Playoff was near 390 pounds. That number came down as Sweat checked in at 366 pounds at the combine, but many believe he will need to shed around 20 more pounds to be a three-down player at the NFL level.

Like Sweat, Titans two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons also had concerns heading into the draft. With that being said, Simmons has developed into a leader in the locker room as well as one of the most active Titans within the Nashville community. Not to mention one of the best interior defensive lineman in the sport.

Sweat's work ethic is already on display, but with Simmons' tutelage the second-round draft pick could become much more than a defensive stalwart for Tennessee.
