Titans trade for depth piece with major connection to staff

It's no secret that the Titans are exploring every option to improve one of the NFL's worst offensive line units from a season ago. The first step the Titans took in shoring up some of the team's issues up front was hiring highly respected offensive line coach Bill Callahan away from the Browns back in February.

Callahan knows Watson's game well as the two worked together in Cleveland last season. Watson played in seven games in 2023, logging a total of 55 offensive snaps.

Watson's connections to the Titans run deeper than Callahan, though. 

An undrafted free agent out of UTSA in 2022, Watson made stops with the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers in 2022. The Falcons parted ways with Watson during final roster cuts, but the 49ers, where Titans GM Ran Carthon was employed as Director of Player Personnel, signed Watson to the team's practice squad just one week later.

A converted tight end out of college, Watson's athleticism is one of his best assets. In three seasons at UTSA, Watson (6'5", 315 pounds) racked up 25 catches for 297 yards and two touchdowns.

Watson will have an opportunity to compete for a roster spot as the Titans' current options at offensive tackle are underwhelming.
