Todd Gurley on Rams dispute: 'Come June 1, I better have my money'

Todd Gurley remains embroiled in a financial dispute with the Los Angeles Rams, and the new Atlanta Falcons running back has given his former team an ultimatum.

“I don’t know what their reason is. … They know they have to pay me too. Apparently probably just using the COVID thing as an excuse,” Gurley said during an appearance Friday on an Uninterrupted podcast. “They probably ain’t go no money to be paying nobody. They’ve got that stadium being built right now. All I know is, come June 1, I better have my money.”

Gurley has been very public about the fact the Rams still owe him a roster bonus despite the team releasing him on March 19. While the initial amount was $7.55 million, offsetting language in his contract specifies that due to his one-year, $5.5 million deal with the Falcons, the Rams are on the hook for $2.5 million less than the original amount.

While fellow former Ram Clay Matthews reportedly filed a grievance against the team over his dispute over $2 million in unpaid guarantees, Gurley has declined to do so thus far.

Gurley indicated Friday that since grievances are not being heard at this point due to the coronavirus pandemic, doing so would only make the process of getting his money much more complex.
