Found September 10, 2013 on Steelers Depot:
With starting center Maurkice Pouncey now out for the season with a knee injury, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday during his press conference that the plan right now is to start second-year offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum at center Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals. "As we prepare right now, Beachum is going to be our starting center and we're in the process of learning what Fernando [Velasco] is capable of in terms of details and learning of assignments," said Tomlin. "Not only him, but Cody Wallace as well." The Steelers signed Fernando Velasco on Monday to a one-year deal and he figures to become the starter as soon as he is up to speed with the offense. Beachum, who replaced Pouncey at center after he went down injured early in the game Sunday, struggled at the position on his way to allowing one quarterback and two hurries in pass protection. Tomlin, in an interview Tuesday on SiriusXM Radio, further explained the situat...

Beachum a quick study at center for Steelers

Kelvin Beachum beat the odds to make the Pittsburgh Steelers a year ago, going from seventh-round draft pick to starting right tackle by the end of the season. Beachum finds himself facing an even more daunting task this fall: replacing Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey. Beachum will start in place of Pouncey on Monday night when the Steelers travel to Cincinnati. Pouncey will have...

Pittsburgh Steelers: Tomlin to make this thing right

by Bo Marchionte It was the first time head coach Mike Tomlin looked rattled. He carries himself like a proud lion. Brave, strong, and fearless in the face of adversity. This past weekend after the Pittsburgh Steelers lost 16-9 at home against the Tennessee Titans a team many expected the Steelers to beat convincingly, there was a different Coach Tomlin at the podium. It seemed he ...

Beachum to start, Dwyer back as Steelers regroup

Mike Tomlin stressed to Jonathan Dwyer when the coach cut the Pittsburgh Steelers running back 10 days ago that the decision to release the team's leading rusher in 2012 was not a personal one. ''We kept the guys that we kept because of the things they did, not because of the things Jonathan didn't do,'' Tomlin said. No hard feelings, apparently. Dwyer...

Maurkice Pouncey injured by teammate, out for season

The day started well for the Pittsburgh Steelers when Tennessee return man Darius Reynaud brain-farted and gave the Steelers two points on the opening kickoff, but it was all down hill from there. The Steelers looked pretty bad through out the day and ended up losing to the Titans 16-9.While the early season loss would be pretty easy to recover from the loss of All-Pro center Maurkice...

Steelers Maurkice Pouncey Tears ACL and MCL

Big loss for Steelers. Pouncey done. ACL and MCL surgery for him and Foote biceps — Ed Bouchette (@EdBouchette) September 8, 2013

Steelers' Bell could miss a month with injury

The Steelers could be out with Le'Veon Bell their projected starting running back for considerably longer than expected. Bell has a rare midfoot sprain that's being classified as a Lisfranc injury a source told the Tribune-Review on Wednesday morning and the team is now hoping to have him return in about a month. As recently as last week Bell had expressed hope of returning...

Pouncey Lost To Friendly Fire

The Steelers couldn't get through eight snaps before losing their center and captain, Maurkice Pouncey, on a fluke play during a 16-9 loss.

Loss of Maurkice Pouncey may be too big for the Steelers to overcome

One of the huge surprises from Sunday’s action was the Steelers’ opening day loss at the hands of the Tennessee Titans. It was a very Steeler-esque game, but at the end of the day, it was the Titans that had the upper hand. The Steelers’ defense actually did its part in the 16 to 9 loss. The Titans were unable to move the ball consistently, but they were able to do just enough...

Steelers will start Redman in week 2

Isaac Redman was named the starting running back today by Mike Tomlin. Redman had a rough week last week, he fumbled twice and picked up eight yards on nine carries before getting benched. “Obviously he played a bad game,” Tomlin said Tuesday. “He’ll be given an opportunity to redeem himself.” With LaRod Stephens-Howling (knee) out […]

AFC North Teams Go Winless In Week 1

The AFC North certainly isn't what it used to be, at least after the first week of the 2013 season, as all four teams are 0-1 heading into the second week of the season. The Baltimore Ravens started things off with their 49-27  loss in the 2013 season opener to the Denver Broncos and the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns all followed suit with...

Steelers Loss To Titans: Hard to Find A Silver Lining

By Jeremy Hritz It’s agonizingly difficult to find a silver lining in Sunday's defeat at the hands of the Tennessee Titans, and even upon an extremely close analysis, there may only be a thread of optimism that can be found, and that is in the fact that there are still 15 games left to play. An effort can made to minimize the loss, but it was a home game season opener in which...
