MVN Eagles:
Here is a no-holds-barred version of the Top 5 active NFL coaches. With the absence of Mike Shanahan, Jon Gruden, and Tony Dungy this year, we needed to update the Top 5 Active NFL Coaches. For the next week I'll be hosting a count down to the best active coach in the NFL.
2. Andy Reid, Philadelphia Eagles
Since this list has pretty much no statistical backbone, Andy Reid a personal favorite finds himself at number two. With a coach like Andy Reid two things are certain: 1. He will make the playoffs and 2. He WON'T win it all. That is fine by me.
Every year Andy Reid deals with extreme circumstances both on and off the field. He's been challenged by the extreme like Terrell Owens, Donovan McNabb and most recently Michael Vick. These athletes are a walk in the park compared the troubles Andy Reid has faced with his family and his personal life.
It's a small circus in Philly between the fans, media and class acts like Owens. I give Reid all the credit in the world for being able to get the best out of each athlete regardless of their conflicting personalities.
One thing is for sure, Andy Reid can coach. Give Andy 11 guys and he'll fully utilize each player to their strengths. I am confident Reid's most recent challenge with Michael Vick will not be a problem and we'll see the Eagles at the top of the NFC east again this year. Andy Reid's teams are traditionally fundamentally sound, and always find a way to win in tough games.
Inscribed on Andy Reid's desk reads:
"The important thing is to lay a plan, and then follow it step by step no matter how small or large one by itself may seem"-Charles Lindbergh
There is no doubt in my mind Andy Reid will get his superbowl ring in time. Maybe not this year but he's been one game away from it before. Next time he'll be knocking down the door.
