Making NFL picks on the top running backs in the league this year is difficult for sure, as there are a ton of great backs to choose from. Narrowing it down to just five is tough, but here is the best list that we could possibly assemble.
Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings – There was a real concern at the start of this year that All Day was going to miss some time and wasn’t going to be at 100% after his ACL injury at the end of last season. Think that AP is back and better than ever? He has rushed the ball fewer times than the other top six rushers in the league, and he still leads the NFL in rushing by 123 yards coming into this week.
Arian Foster, Houston Texans – Foster is not just a great rusher, but a great pass catcher as well. He had a pair of TDs on Thanksgiving Day, marking his fourth multi-TD game of the year. He has 1,064 yards as a rusher and 122 as a receiver, and he has a total of 14 scores to lead the NFL.
Ray Rice, Baltimore Ravens – It’s tough to justify Rice as a Top 5 running back this year, knowing that he is only 14th in the NFL in rushing, but he is still one of the most dangerous backs that the NFL has to offer. He has rushed for 697 yards and caught 40 passes for 337 yards as well.
Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks – Beast Mode has had himself a heck of a year, rushing for 1,005 yards on a whopping 212 carries. Seattle runs its whole offense around what Lynch can do, and if he isn’t at his best, the team just won’t get anything going offensively.
Doug Martin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Martin has had himself a heck of a rookie year. The frosh is one of the four men in the league to have at least 1,000 rushing yards this year, and he also has 319 yards as a receiver. Eight TDs has made him a rookie sensation in spite of the fact that he won’t win Rookie of the Year honors.
