Found December 20, 2011 on The Viking Age:
So it turns out I may have given Tori Gurley too much credit. When I first posted on the Packer practice squad hand’s decision to turn down the Vikings’ offer of a roster spot I assumed it had mostly to do with him thinking he’d get a shot to replace the injured Greg Jennings on the Packers roster. Others also tossed out the notion that Gurley stayed in Green Bay because he knows Donald Driver is on the way out, meaning a spot will be open next season. But the Jennings and Driver situations probably weren’t behind Gurley’s decision at all. Instead it was all about money. A lot of money from a practice squad player’s point-of-view. Rob Demkovsky reports that the Packers helped make up Gurley’s mind about staying by bumping his weekly salary from $5,700 to $22,058. His new number happens to be equal with the weekly salary for an active roster player making the rookie minimum. He’s getting paid real player money to be on the scout team? Sweet deal. … [visit site to read more] Tori Gurl...

Some Packers fans take it a bit too far

Pride in one's football team is important, but some take it a bit too far. Maybe it’s because it’s been one year since the Packers have lost a game, but there has been a noticeable drop-off in the number of domestic abuse cases attributed to a loss by the Green Bay Packers. We have all heard the stories about how the number of domestic abuse cases in Wisconsin goes up when...

Green Bay Fan Chokes Her Daughter After Packers Loss

We buy stock in the Green Bay Packers and all Hell breaks loose. One chick went so far after Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs that she’s up for 12.5 years in jail for her actions after K.C. miraculously beat G.B., 19-14. This drunk broad is accused of choking her daughter. How bad did things get at some Appleton hotel? Mom is now on the hook for felony child abuse charges. Aaron...

Aaron Rodgers Woos Grandmas

There’s something about Green Bay. It’s special. Really, really special. Take this scenario for example: A few weeks ago, my dad sent me the link for the amazingly hilarious Aaron Rodgers Associated Bank commercials that were gaining popularity in Green Bay. Living in Minneapolis, all I get to see are the lousy save the stadium ads, and this was a comical relief that was both...

Packers have bounced back from past late-season stumbles

Under coach Mike McCarthy, the Green Bay Packers have had December stinkers on the road before.

Rodgers named Male Athlete of the Year

When Aaron Rodgers needs to rekindle the feelings that drove his rise from a junior college quarterback to Super Bowl MVP, he doesn't have to look too far. Rodgers held on to the many rejection letters he received from marquee college programs as he was coming out of high school. Even today, he leaves a few of them sitting out at his house. ''I chose the couple that...

Aaron Rodgers named AP Male Athlete of Year

After an MVP performance in the Super Bowl and a 13-0 run to begin the season, is it really a surprise that Aaron Rodgers unanimously took home another prestigious award? I think not. On Wednesday, Rodgers was named the Associated Press 2011 Male Athlete of the Year. The Packers’ quarterback received 112 votes out of 212 ballots, beating out Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander...

Tuesday Morning Quarterback: Ranking the NFL's signal callers after Week 15

Aaron Rodgers, after 13 consecutive weeks at No. 1, loses one game and now has company. Really, how do you differentiate between Rodgers, Drew Brees and Tom Brady?

Rodgers, the Super Bowl-winning quarterback, received 112 votes out of the 212 ballots submitted from U.S. news organizations. Verlander received 50 votes after a remarkable season during which he won the Cy Young and MVP awards.
