We want more!

Every week it’s great to hear Steve Raible on the Seattle Seahawks radio broadcast yelling out “Touchdown Seahawks”, they are two words every 12th man can’t get enough of…

Touchdown Seahawks! is a new weekly piece we will be bringing you, reviewing and breaking down the Seahawks top play from Sunday!

Well week one’s finalists for top play came down to Richard Sherman‘s toe tapping interception and Russell Wilson‘s first career touchdown.

In the end, Wilson won through because; well the word touchdown is in the title.

12th Man, please join me in forgetting the anger from Sunday, and let’s focus on a terrific catch by Sidney Rice and Seattle’s only touchdown.

The Play

The Seahawks offense lined up for 3rd and 9 from Arizona’s 11, in a 3-wide receiver set with the Tight End, Zach Miller playing off of Right Tackle Breno Giacomini‘s hip.

Sidney Rice is lined up at the flanker spot, on the left side of the field.  Next to him is slot receiver Doug Baldwin.  Braylon Edwards completes the 3-receiver’s lining up on the right side at the Split-End spot.

Marshawn Lynch is lined up behind Russell Wilson.

As Wilson drops back, Marshawn Lynch breaks out into the flat and Wilson pumps to him.  The protection breaks down and pretty quickly Russell Wilson has Cards’ defensive end Darnell Dockett chasing him down.

There seems to be confusion in the Cardinals secondary, as Patrick Peterson, who lined up opposite Rice, picks up Baldwin who is going out to the sideline and William Gay follows, ignoring Sidney Rice who is running a slant.

Wilson gets the pass just past an outstretched Calais Campbell, and into the reached out hands of Rice.

Officially it was a 10-yard touchdown, closing the Arizona Cardinals lead to three points.

The Catch

Let me dwell into the negative side of things for just a short moment.  It’s a little unnerving that even on the best play of the game; Wilson threw over Rice’s head.

That was something that happened far too often, especially on a receiving core that has Rice, Braylon Edwards and Zach Miller.

Back to the catch, Sidney Rice does an absolutely excellent job of waiting until the last second to put up his arms and snatch the ball away from the safety.

Great job by all parties involved and great job especially to Wilson on getting his first career touchdown throw!
