WR Brandon Marshall reportedly flashed his skills all night long in front of 10,000 Bears fans in Bourbonnais. He was helped off the field after landing "awkwardly" on the ground. But he quickly returned to the field and continued to make plays.
He’s going against a good football player most of the night in Charles Tillman, Smith said via CSNChicago.com. But you know when you’re a good receiver and you have a good quarterback who can get the ball there, it’s just a one-on-one game. Brandon’s going to win most of those battles.
Rookie DE Shea McClellin put on the pads for the first time as a Bear and the coaches and fans were excited to see what he could do. McClellin talked about the goal of training camp and what needs to be done for him to be ready for the first week of the season.
That's what I want to do is show my speed and I think I did that, McClellin said via ESPNChicago.com. But like I said, this is just a starting point and I have to get better every day from here on out. This is the first day in pads so I pretty much know where I'm at. I just need to keep learning from these older guys and coach [Rod] Marinelli.
Newly acquired defensive tackle Brian Price can't take part in practice until Tuesday because of NFL rules. But he was in Bourbonnais last night and he seems ready to compete for some playing time here in the windy city.
I'm here with this team and I'm feeling great, Price said via Chicagotribune.com. Just my mental (state) a couple of months ago was nowhere near where I am now. Just from being here, I feel so much better, like the weight of the world just lifted off my shoulders.
Rookie wide receivers don't always make splashes right away. Johnny Knox had success as a fifth-round pick with five touchdown receptions in 2009, but Earl Bennett struggled to even appear in a single game as a rookie in 2008. Alshon Jeffery is just trying to gain knowledge from the rest of the Bears receivers. It will be interesting to see how much he contributes early in the season.
The speed of the game tells me I'm in the NFL, Jeffery said via Chicagotribune.com. It's a lot more faster. Gotta go out and play, Jeffery said. I mean, just make plays. Just gotta get open.
CB depth added: Jeremy Ware was signed Saturday. He was a seventh-round pick in 2010 by the Oakland Raiders and he reeled in one interception. The Bears waived K David Teggart to make this move.   Jake Perper is the owner and head writer for Bearsbacker.com. Brian Price's Role with the Chicago Bears

As we here at Bears 101 have already reported, the Chicago Bears have acquired defensive tackle Brian Price from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a seventh round draft pick. Although we've already reported Price failed a conditioning test for Tampa Bay, another reason to his departure could've very well been an alleged confrontation with rookie strong safety Mark Barron....

Rookie Shea McClellin has a ways to go

If there's a sense that Shea McClellin is getting piled on by me writing this blog, then throw another log on the fire. I don't want to sound overly dramatic because there is plenty of that going around as well. There's no reason to panic because we're only four practices into camp and there's a long long ways to go. The best way to evaluate this is to say...

Shea McClellin Earning Respect on the Defensive Line

Chicago Bears rookie defensive end Shea McClellin isn't going to start just because he's a high first round draft pick. The Bears have let it be known that the rookie from Boise State needs to earn that right and so far in training camp, he's doing exactly that.  Defensive Coordinator Rod Marinelli has been touting the 19th overall pick in last April's draft...

Chicago Bears Film Evaluation: DT Brian Price

The Bears had to address a need along the interior of the defensive line with the departure of Anthony Adams and Amobi Okoye.  The loss of Okoye was especially tough given how he emerged in his one season in Chicago. So the hole left needed to be filled, and the ramshackle of five players competing for the fourth DT spot wasn't very promising.  GM Phil Emery heard our concerns...

McClellin rising up Bears depth chart

It took only three practices for Bears first rounder, defensive end Shea McClellin, to move one spot up on the depth chart. Last night, he got a number of reps with the second team.

BR Rookie Diary: Shea McClellin

Bears defensive end Shea McClellin was elevated up the depth chart this weekend and is currently getting reps with the backups. Bear Report goes one-on-one with Chicago's first-round rookie.

McClellin learning on the job

Chicago Bears defensive end Shea McClellin, the team’s first round pick and 19th overall in this past spring’s 2011 draft, struggled through a three-hour practice session Sunday, part of his indoctrination into the professional ranks. Running with the second and third teamers, the Boise State rookie was stymied during pass rush drills against fellow rookie offensive tackles...

Bears Brandon Marshall, Chris Conte Survive Injury Scares

Chicago Bears No. 1 receiver Brandon Marshall survived an injury scare not long after Devin Hester survived an injury scare of his own. After the two devastating and season crushing injuries that the Bears suffered last season with Jay Cutler and Matt Forte both going down, any sort of scare is going to make Bears fans hold their breath. The 12,000 fans in attendance had...

Chicago Bears' Lovie Smith safe through 2012

Chicago Bears chairman George McCaskey said on Friday that Lovie Smith would be the head coach for the Chicago Bears in 2012, and new general manager Phil Emery would have the freedom to make a change at season's end. "We told Phil when he came in that Lovie had to be the coach in 2012. He accepted that condition," McCaskey  told 'The Carmen, Jurko & Harry...

Chicago Bears training camp notes: Day Two Wrap

The Bears finished up their last mandatory practice without pads on Friday.  Today we find out what the rookies are made of for real after two days of showing their stuff without pads. The two stories that have emerged early on are the play of rookie TE Evan Rodriguez and Alshon Jeffery.  These two rookies have stood out the most, but it's way too early to make any sort...

Chicago Bears training camp: day 4

The Chicago Bears made some more roster noise just four days into training camp. After acquiring defensive tackle Brian Price from Tampa Bay the other day, Chicago added cornerback Jeremy Ware and waived kicker David Teggart. Ware was a seventh round pick by the Oakland Raiders in 2010 and appeared in eight games as a rookie recording one interception and three pass breakups...

Chicago Bears training camp notes: Day Three Notes

Over 10,000 loyal Chicago Bears fans showed up for the Bears' Saturday night practice, the first one in pads.  They likely showed up in such vast numbers for one reason, to see Jay Cutler throw the ball to Brandon Marshall. They were not disappointed as Cutler and Marshall put on a show that likely has never been seen before by Bears fans.  The simple reality is Cutler and...

Bears begin hitting in Bourbonnais

After two days of non-contact workout drills, the Chicago Bears began full scale workouts Saturday night at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais. The first night of hitting brought a huge crowd and a slight scare when newly acquired wide receiver Brandon Marshall got tangled up on a pass pattern. After initial fear, Marshall turned out to be okay. The Bears [...]
