Fox Sports Wisconsin:
GREEN BAY, Wis. The NFL has decided that wearing the wrong-colored shoes in a game should not constitute a 5,000 fine.
That was the case for Packers cornerback Tramon Williams, who won his appeal Friday with the league after wearing yellow shoes with the teams brown throwback uniforms in a Week 6 win over the St. Louis Rams.
They cleared it, Williams said. They told me that Im good.
Linebacker Clay Matthews wore the same yellow shoes in that game and was also fined 5,000 by the NFL. Matthews was not available to the media Friday, but Williams believes that the 2010 NFC Defensive Player of the Year was also likely cleared of the fine.
The main reason that Williams appealed his fine was that he said he wore the exact same shoes in Green Bays throwback-uniform game last season and was not fined or told that it was a problem.
I assumed I could do the same thing this year; thats what I was going on, Williams said. They said, OK, we understand. I havent been fined for any uniform violations before. I had a lot of odds working out for me at that point. So thats cool.
