Trent Richardson hasn’t exactly performed up to the level that the Colts expected him to when they gave up a first-round pick to acquire him from the Browns. And according to Reggie Wayne, the Colts running back isn’t taking much of the blame for his lack of production. Via StampedeBlue.com, Wayne shared some of the comments that Richardson made to the future Hall of Fame receiver with Jake Query and Derek Schultz of WNDE radio after being benched in favor of Donald Brown. “He came to me, he wasn’t pouting or anything,” Wayne said. “This was the day after he found out he was demoted and he said, ‘Now I can sit back and actually watch the way it’s supposed to be done.’ He kind of feels that he was maybe forced into it early without actually learning it.” This may explain Trent Richardson’s abysmal season (411 yards, 2 TDs, 2.9 YPC). Many offensive players that are traded in the middle season tend to struggle with their new team (Carson Palmer in 2011, anyone?) and don’t make an impact until they have a full offseason of learning, studying and practicing their team’s playbook under their belt. Maybe after being given more time to get acclimated to the Colts, Richardson will become the back that Indianapolis GM Ryan Grigson thought he was getting from Cleveland. The Colts better hope so, or else this trade may go down as one of the bigger busts in NFL history.   Follow us on Twitter! @DownandDistance Sports-Kings Down and Distance contributor Dylan Veltkamp @DylanVeltkampSK The post Trent Richardson felt forced into Colts offense too quickly, says Reggie Wayne appeared first on DOWN & DISTANCE - Presented by Sports-Kings.

  • It only took Eric Dickerson a few plays to produce after he was traded from the Rams to the Colts in mid season.
  • Trent Richardson seems to be getting a lot of criticism. A few games ago when Luck ran in a touchdown he was the first down to give a congrats low five. Unless he becomes a problem on the sideline or in the locker room, I'm willing to give him some time. So far he seems like a good teammate.

Reggie Wayne says Trent Richardson felt forced into offense too quickly

So what’s wrong with running back Trent Richardson? Richardson essentially has said of the Colts, “It’s not me, it’s you.” Via the good folks at StampedeBlue.com, receiver Reggie Wayne shared with Jake Query and Derek Schultz of WNDE radio comments Richardson made to the veteran wideout and de facto leader of the team after Richardson was benched this past weekend for...

Maybe This is Why the Colts Didn't Sweat Losing Pierre Garcon

Ever since the Indianapolis Colts lost Reggie Wayne the team has struggled. Luckily the AFC South is not very good and they'll cruise into the playoffs as the No. 4 seed at the worst. However, I can't help but think that maybe--just maybe--things could be going better for the Colts had they made a stronger effort to hold on to Pierre Garcon.Than again, maybe they knew something...

Colts aren't the same without WR Wayne

The Colts aren't the same team without Reggie Wayne. In the five games since Wayne tore his right ACL against the Denver Broncos, Indianapolis is averaging 19.6 points. In the seven games Wayne played, the Colts averaged 26.7 points. The offensive line has failed to protect quarterback Andrew Luck. T.Y. Hilton, the new No. 1 receiver, is adjusting to being double teamed, and...

Colts RB Trent Richardson ‘humbled’ by losing his starting job

Tweet A lot was expected when Trent Richardson, the third overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, was traded by the Cleveland Browns to the Indianapolis Colts in September. Unfortunately for the Colts and Richardson those expectations have yet to be reached, leading to Richardson being demoted to second string in favor of Donald Brown last week. Richardson...

Colts in sad shape for playoff run. But, hey…Adongo is a cool story.

It’s true. They are. I’m happy that they beat the Titans in Week 13 to more or less seal the AFC South, but they are going to be in big trouble in the playoffs. This team was able to beat the Broncos earlier in the season, but that was when the apparent genie in the bottle known as Reggie Wayne was healthy. Evidently, every success for this team hinges on him for some reason...

Ahmad Bradshaw Plans on Playing 2014

I saw a familiar face in the Colts' locker room today. Running back Ahmad Bradshaw is back at the Colts' facility this week after making considerable headway in his rehabilitation from season-ending neck surgery. It's been quite a while since he's spent any length of time around the facility, but he clearly was happy to be back.More reason for his good spirits: The...

Reggie Wayne: Trent Richardson Felt Forced Into Colts Offense Too Quickly

The million dollar question being asked around Indianapolis is simply this, what’s wrong with Trent Richardson, and how did he all of a sudden forget how to play running back? Richardson for his part seems to think that the Colts move a little to quickly after acquiring him. According to StampedeBlue.com, Wayne told Jake Query and Derek Schultz of WNDE radio that he was a bit...

Colts RB Donald Brown flourishes as starter

Running back Donald Brown was a first-round draft choice in 2009, the 27th player selected. He has been an occasional starter, a breakaway runner, a backup, a special teams player, and a whipping boy of fans, media and bloggers. He also is, speaking from appearances, the guy the Indianapolis Colts don't want but can't do without. With Joseph Addai gone last season, Brown...

Indianapolis Colts at Cincinnati Bengals: Three Bold Predictions

Five weeks ago things were different with the Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts. The Bengals were atop (and still are) the AFC North, looking like world beaters and potential Super Bowl contenders.Andy Dalton was doing his best “Joe Montana” impersonations, was named the October AFC Offensive Player of the Month. The Colts were (and still are) at the top of the AFC South...

Trent Richardson might need to get his vision checked

If Colts running back Trent Richardson keeps missing holes like this…he might need to get some glasses. Colts vs. Bengals: 3 Questions with the Enemy

Blake: The Colts and more specifically Andrew Luck haven’t looked the same since Reggie Wayne went down with an injury. Can the Colts overcome this loss?Jake: Whether or not the Colts turn the offensive woes around is mainly on the shoulders of the coaching staff. Despite losing two starting running backs, the starting left guard, the starting tight AND the team’s top receiver...

Colts-Bengals Preview

Chuck Pagano has never made it a secret that his top priority as the Indianapolis Colts' coach is to make sure his franchise quarterback has adequate protection. Keeping pass rushers away from Andrew Luck may be even more difficult with a banged-up offensive line Sunday as the visiting Colts try to clinch the AFC South title against the defensively stout Cincinnati Bengals....

The Colts Bearded Trio-Queen's City Edition

Against the Titans, the Colts defense stepped up, compared to how they had played in recent weeks. The Colts kept Chris Johnson in check and also created 4 turnovers, leading to a 22-14 win. This week the Colts face a tough test as they head to 8-4 Cincinnati Bengals, boasting an 8th ranked rush and pass defense. If Indy looks to pick up a tough road win, they need to follow these...

Colts still believe in Trent Richardson ‘long term’

getty images Trent Richardson may no longer be at the top of the depth chart for the Indianapolis Colts at running back but he still fits into their long term plan. The Colts pulled the trigger on a trade with the Cleveland Browns to get Richardson. After weeks of struggling the Colts sent him to the bench in favor of Donald Brown. While it would be easy to chalk the trade for Richardson...

Fantasy Fix: Week 14 Waiver Wire Blues - The Playoff Push

The Fantasy Football playoffs are upon us, my Fantasy Fixers. Some league playoffs start this week, some start next week, either way you are entering one and done territory. Win and you are on the road to Fantasy glory. Lose and all those hours spent rosterbating, analyzing stats and ignoring the family will have been for nothing.
