The Jacksonville Jaguars reloaded their roster during the 2024 NFL Draft. The team’s first-round pick, Brian Thomas Jr., turned heads at one of his first practices. Five-time Pro Bowler Jarvis Landry took note of Thomas’ exceptional ability and had high praise for the new Trevor Lawrence weapon.

When asked what his impression of Thomas’ practice was, Landry did not hold back.

Elite. Elite. Elite,” Landry claimed, per Sports Illustrated.

“So just watching him watching him out here and, you know, seeing it firsthand in person. I’ve seen him on TV a couple of times, you know, but seeing it firsthand. He’s elite,” Landry added.

It seems Brian Thomas Jr.’s outstanding receiving skill left a great mark on Jarvis Landry. Thomas joins the Jaguars after an impressive stint with the LSU football team.

Thomas joined LSU in 2021 and built a solid foundation. He amassed 365 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games during his freshman year. Then, he improved to 361 yards and five TDs a year later; however, Thomas made a giant leap during his junior year.

The 6-foot-5 receiver tallied a whopping 1171 yards and 17 TDs during the 2023-24 season. His massive improvement garnered admiration from numerous NFL scouts, and he solidified himself as a touted draft pick.

If Thomas continues to work hard, there is no doubt he can find similar success at the professional level. He should be a great piece beside Trevor Lawrence, who looks to make a jump himself. Lawrence and the Jaguars could take the NFL by surprise in 2024-25.

Jaguars look to make a deeper run in 2024-25

Jacksonville ended the 2023-24 season with a 9-8 record, which placed them second in the AFC South. The Jaguars missed the NFL Playoffs after a shaky end to the regular season. One of their most pivotal matchups came against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Christmas Eve in 2023.

The Jaguars lost 30-12 after a subpar two-way performance. Trevor Lawrence made eye-opening comments after his team’s tough loss.

“We look lost. No sense of urgency. The list goes on and on…So we’ve got to figure that out,” Lawrence said, per Michael DiRocco.

Jacksonville’s loss extended a losing streak that eventually caused them to lose their top spot in the division. Lawrence will remember this moment and enter the 2024-25 season with a fire for success.

The highly touted QB comes off a season where he threw for 4,016 yards (10th in the NFL) and 21 TDs. Yet, he wants to take another leap to help improve Jacksonville’s performance as a team.

Adding Brian Thomas Jr. to Lawrence’s receiving targets is a step in the right direction. Thomas has plenty of time to develop but taking a rapid jump would help Jacksonville out. The Jaguars lost the services of former star WR Calvin Ridley to the Tennessee Titans during the 2024 NFL free agency period.

Ridley was Jacksonville’s top receiver in 2023-24. Nevertheless, the Jaguars have other new and returning pieces that should allow their offense to stay afloat.

As the 2024-25 season approaches, it will be interesting to see if Jarvis Landry’s praise of Thomas comes true. Regardless, Jacksonville wants to play well and earn a postseason spot.
